There is a great series of books from American Girl that is really informative and helped my daughter
My daughter read the American Girls books- and knew what to expect and she also
Asked me loads of questions before
Incase someone missed, book suggestion is ‘Celebrate your Body’ by Sonya Taylor
Love this. This is how we all need to talk and share xx
on my first period ,i really don t how to use the pad
There is a book called period power by MaisieHill which addresses so much abt periods/ cycles/ hormones
The first time my period skipped .. my gosh I thought I was pregnant hahaha and I cried and the most stressful 2 days of my life when I was 12yo
I track w a free app too
And now my 12 yr old tracks too
I used the app FLO to track my period
I can totally relate to Mariam. I only knew the importance of period health when I took the initiative to go to my gynecologist.
Another common problem I think is when older generation parents think that irregular periods, extreme cramps, spotting in between periods are all “normal”.
I really think we need to also educate ourselves bc not all gynecologist explain things well (atleast in my experience). For ex w pcos- they rarely mentioned nutritional changes and lifestyles adjustments to me- just medicines!
Sage tea is awesome for cramps- my daughter loves it
Same experience with Mariam!!!! Omg
My husband is old school and i just say ‘nour isnt praying’ and he understands
Initially he was freaked out
I think we as women have to stop being weird ant period conversations
He thought we were ‘hiding’ something from him
I used an ob brand tampon without applicator and it got stuck inside
I never tried again
In our culture it has been said that using Tampons and cups before marriage is not acceptable because it will “de virginize” a lady
I wish i knew abt the various types of napkins, how to track and also to have a wider view of what my body was doing each week before/ after my period
Like the gooey discharge- is that normal? Is the brown spotting ok? Etx
Also from a religious perspective- what is considered the end of a period; what is considered the start, etx
Also non medical interventions that i only learned from others- like sage tea, water bottles, exercise, etx
I wish someone had told me to track my periods. Knowing the different types of discharge that comes after periods (it used to freak me out! I thought there was something wrong with me 😭) And like Natalia, that periods affect sooooo many things.
I knw what you mean Bianca!
What abt constipation?
I feelSuper constipated right before
One hack to reduce cramps is doing yoga for periods. You might not have the energy to do it, but it helps tremendously! I also do cardio exercises a few days before my period and this has helped me go through periods without cramps at all.
Great conversation and so insightful
Thank you all!! This has been so great! Loved everyone’s insights and stories!
