Growing Outside the Box: Taking the Democratic Education Movement to the Next Level - Shared screen with speaker view

Question 1 - How do we go to the next level in terms of financing? Schools like ours often do not have access to public funding from grants or the government directly. When public funding is available, it comes with the fear that there will be strings attached, and we will swap the core of what we are in exchange for stability.Charging fees makes our movements less accessible to the people who may need them most and fundraising can take a lot of time and energy from other important work. What are the steps we can take towards an alternative education movement that is financially sustainable and stable, accessible to everyone, and that holds onto its core values and purpose?Question 2 - How do we go to the next level in terms of public opinion and awareness? How can we get the idea in front of more people? With more people homeschooling because of covid, is there an opportunity there? What research still needs to be done? Do we have blind spots we’re ignoring?

Question 3 - How do we go to the next level in terms of transforming mainstream education?Mainstream education is simply the education system that is dominant in a given society. In which case, our aim is to transform our education movement from an alternative one, to a mainstream one. Or at least a large enough part of the mainstream that every child in our society can avail of that type of education as a meaningful option. So in the unlikely event that the Prime Minister, or President of your Country, came to you and said, ‘You know what, our education system is no good, you make it how you think it should be,’ what would the plan be? What does democratic or non-coercive education look like when it’s scaled up for fifty million students in the US, or 10 million in the UK, for example? Or for individual schools with a thousand students plus?

I think one issue as well is how they even use the same wording than us (democratic education), but meaning something totally different::https://www.coe.int/en/web/edc/home?desktop=true#:~:text=conference%20information...-,Charter%20on%20Education%20for%20Democratic%20Citizenship%20and%20Human%20Rights%20Education,prevention%20of%20human%20rights%20violations.
