The Charlotte Land Trust is also a small, non-staffed land trust. We do not own any land but we do hold about 15 easements…mostly fairly small amounts of land that fall below the threshold of what VLT would typically hold. If we work on larger projects, we usually do it in conjunction with VLT, TNC or some other conservation organization which will hold the easement. Charlotte does also have a conservation fund.

Salisbury has just established a conservation fund.
Monkton has a Conservation Fund too.
There are 67 towns in Vermont that have Conservation Funds.
If UVA program might disincentivize land owners from pursuing a conservation easement that runs with land, have you (Land Trust people) found successful strategies for encouraging landowners to strengthen protection by moving from UVA to easement?
Our Conservation Commission has identified some priorities for easement (wildlife corridors, etc.) what is the best way to begin to communicate the value to landowners who might be in the area. Sessions like this?
