On some campuses, if n-1 students are happy, but 1 student is upset, then it can cause the faculty member grave difficulty, if the upset student complains. In such a campus climate, would this assignment be safe for the faculty member?

Do you provide any tech support or resources for the students?

Dorene, I didn't have a chance to build the technical infrastructure. I started with very basic tech expectation (students are easy going about phone recording) The visual piece is more complicated. I told them to use powerpoint, but they got confused by that (thought they had to build a powerpoint presentation)
Dorene Ciletti
49:36
Thank you, Susan!

Ann Marie: Enjoyed your presentation. I also have students do an untraditional resume. They start with an analysis of the geography options (applying PEST model), industry analysis (applying Porter 5 Forces) and fit for them (applying McKinsey 7 S analysis). Noticed you also use a "mapping" writing technique; I have an advanced version of that that I incorporate called "block writing." If interested - let me know and I'd be happy to share. harrisond7@nku.edu

Ann Marie: did you worry about some students being too stressed by addressing COVID19 in a course?

Yes, students worked in groups (cohorts of students of different majors- we have a variety of majors in the Honors College at VCU). They decided on the questions as a group and they interviewed people via Facetime or Zoom. We did not go through IRB... we consulted with a colleague who does something similar; he did not go through IRB. We gained some advice and perspective from him. We also have interviewees sign a release form similar to the one our Public Relations dept uses.
Ann Marie Halstead
01:12:06
Correct, Claire.

I told my students that “(1) I’m not perfect, (2) I’m going to make mistakes, but (3) if anything goes wrong, it can be repaired—this isn’t heart surgery—if an assignment is too hard, then grades can be adjusted, deadlines can be moved, etc…”
