Preach it!! In the curriculum is important!
Collette Thompson
38:29
Since All in Challenge is still accepting applications and there is now a joint effort with the VFC designation, is VFC still designating campuses this year although the deadline has passed? (I was on another call and coming on a little late. I'm sorry if this was already shared and I missed it.)
Chuck Black (PA CVP)
40:23
@Collette- Thanks for the questioning. We are accepting plans until August 17th.
Collette Thompson

Thanks, Chuck!

Institutionalizing is so key!
Rachel Levey-Baker
49:55
When building your campus leadership team and building partnerships- what steps can be taken to ensure you have members who identify across the political spectrum?
John Suarez
51:15
Rachel, we recruited participation of our local elected officials - from (of course!) both major political parties. In our small community, we do not have third-party groups.
Christina Williams
51:47
This was so helpful!
Jessica Davis
52:06
Tiffany this is really wonderful!
Rachel Levey-Baker
52:15
Thanks John, and with student participation, especially in the leadership tiers, do you ask students to identify political affiliation to ensure that all members are not of the same affiliation?
Madison Martin
52:18
Thank you!! This was so helpful!
Hannah Kutten
52:30
Thank you! This gave me some really great ideas!

Rachel Levey-Baker
53:00
Thank you, Tiffany! Incredible work!
John Suarez
54:04
Yes, Rachel. My interns reached-out to multiple student groups. We enjoyed productive debates, for example, between the Young Democrats and College Republicans. We are moving to motivate students on the basis of their majors and career goals, among other considerations.
Rachel Levey-Baker
55:36
Thanks, John. We have such a small campus that we don’t have these groups, but we’ll look for other ways to extend our reach.
Tiffany Seawright
56:35
Thanks everyone. Very encouraging...keeping fingers crossed.
Lance Wright (he, him, his)
57:54
One of the things we are trying to be thoughtful about is that we have many students who cannot vote for a variety of reasons. Are people including things in their plans for what civic engagement can look like for those students
Ryan Drysdale
59:11
Lance, great question! There are lots of ways to involve students who aren't eligible to vote. In many states, they can help with voter registration and do get out the vote efforts. They can participate in deliberative dialogues, speaker series, debates, and other voter and democratic engagement efforts.
Theresa Kouo
01:00:13
@Lance, in addition to what Ryan said, we have a significant international student population. We've worked with our international office to bring civic education workshops to help understand the cultural context of US politics and do mock elections so they can feel a part of the energy around elections.
Theresa Kouo
01:01:18
We're also doing features on international students, reflecting on U.S. politics to help U.S. students understand U.S. democracy in a global context
Lance Wright (he, him, his)
01:02:19
Those are great ideas, thank you
Charlotte Quigley
01:06:54
Ben, great tip & perspective. Appreciate that you shared that with us.
Benjamin Nixon (he/him)

Students and staff who are curious about institutional challenges, engagement strategies, the actual crafting of student-voting-oriented requests for proposals, and collaboration between and within student voting coalitions can reach out to me at bnixon@ccp.edu OR Benjamin.nixon@rutgers.edu. I am always happy to chat about improving student voting outcomes! Also could talk for days about history, hostile architecture, political prognostication, and other various topics. Good luck on your action plan and organizing, everybody! <3
