Painting in that “flat” way CAN be a stylistic choice :). That first painting is beautiful Angela! It is always good to learn all the techniques for sure :)
Angela
58:36
@ila Xxxx thanks..it is always the journey not the destination xx
ila rose
58:44
yes! :)
Lada Zahlavova

01:01:32
Great! Good to know :)
ila rose
01:02:42
feathering the white can be done with a dry brush like Toni was talking about yesterday… keep the paint moist and use a soft brush
Lada Zahlavova
01:05:55
I have got free style show as wel, Sarita. Relax. :-)
Maeleigh Frost
01:06:18
great to hear that Ila, I’ve been using a dry brush a lot but wasn’t sure if that was just lack of confidence. met a friend from class who said she never uses a dry brush so happy I’m not wrong :) ……more experience with oils than these acrylics but enjoying the process! :)
Michelle Muller
01:06:43
sorry I've beena bit scrambled today. I'm ready now! should I go to the blue room? I didn't submit so can just share a couple min at the end?
ila rose
01:06:50
it’s good to experiment with any technique along the way, just to see what works for you. There is not right or wrong :)
ila rose
01:07:19
Michelle, you can stay here if you want. Or you can go there. Either way since you are just observing. Whatever you feel ismorst beneficial for you!

Getting a smooth bland is challenging! Practicing a light touch with a brush…even just playing on a scrap piece of toned paper, trying different amounts of pressure and paint thickness to see what works for you

I have a question about Gesso. How important is it? I’ve asked before and it sounded like it wasn’t a big deal… esp if your canvas is already primed. I’ve never known if I should gessor or not… I guess does it help the color pop more?
Michelle Muller
01:44:23
They are always already primed usually the ones I buy so I think I’m good
Hazel Pharo Carlsen
01:45:39
t\sometimes people gesso again even on a primed canvas..you can put on another coat and sand it and repeat..put on thin coats of gesso...that way you can get a smoother surface,
ila rose
01:46:18
Yes hazel, good point :)
@ukanojo_art - Kanojo Ukeru

02:01:00
it looks like my image was never submitted. i tried to do it a couple of times but i think it didn’t go through as when i go there now it says it is no longer receiving submissions but it was still up on my tabs..
ila rose
02:02:10
hmmm…you may have just missed the submission deadline. But this will not be the only opportunity to get some help. Hopefully some of the critiques today can help inform the questions you have! Also, the Facebook group os a great resource for help!
Katherine Bird
02:02:33
no, i did it the day before it just didn’t go all the way through to the end i think
ila rose
02:02:53
Shoot, I’m not sure what the glitch was.
Glow
02:08:45
I didn’t make the deadline, but if there’s time I’d like some suggestions
Elaine Prentice
02:09:07
amazing looking with new eyes!
ila rose
02:12:28
I’ll be right back…
Katherine Bird
02:12:29
i only did up to the point you guided us to.. the drawing, light, dark and one wash. i did not have red oxide so i used yellow which made things green. when i went back to darks i used blue and purple, should i have used some of the green as well? i notice that the lines are quite dark. should i be going over them w white more at this point or do another wash and then go back to the white? do i keep using the yellow wash at this point? i know it makes her look a bit more alien and less natural but i think its ok as i like the blueness and natural tones perhaps for this one
ila rose
02:13:48
Good questions Katherine! We’ll try to give it some time in a few minutes!
ila rose
02:13:58
I’ll be right back, restroom break…
ila rose
02:16:50
We’ll try to get to your questions and files, Glow and Katherine. I took note

02:33:30
Paying attention to dream imagery while we work through this process is very powerful…noticing what symbols are appearing around you. It can all help you find your intention for your work with the paintings.
