Forestry has a list of recommended trees sorted by mature size class. It does not go into detail on specific site qualities.

I am interested and concerned about preservation of our mature trees. How is a tree defined as being “hazardous”? Is there a way that this process of cutting down older trees can be slowed and/or reviewed?

I am very impressed with the progress the City has made to date. With the City Forester position vacant, I was not expecting so much to be happening already. Excellent work team!

on data collection: curious if technology has advanced (LIDAR ?) in ways that the canopy and tree types can be identified...which may not be as granular as arborists on the ground, but would fill data gaps “well enough” to direct limited resources to maximize the canopy development

Simply Living, a sustainability nonprofit in Columbus, would like to be part of a coalition as well.

Keep in mind your time is theoretically city/municipal $$… your entities will likely have different opinions on this. As a federal employee I imagine the feds don't want 'obligate' themselves for any efforts for fear of legal reprisal.

We do need any coalition to be representative of the communities it represents

Jean's example of organizing residents in Weinland Park included a diversity of residents at both an in person meeting as well as creating an online format for engagement. Often the burden of responsibility falls on community groups to make sure they include those voices - it takes time and effort and a more systemic equitable engagement tool would welcome.
