thanks @ Cory
Amanda Bulgarelli
06:25:16
Hey Vet!! So glad you're here!!
Amanda Bulgarelli
06:25:57
Hey Pat!!
Cory Shondell
06:26:05
It's Essential because not everyone can do what we do. it really takes a special kind of person
Sara Lopez
06:26:05
i agree Deborah when a resident is " misbehaving" send them to activities when the building is falling apart go see activities. but yet we are seen as " they are just fun and games " no one sees our job as having a purpose.
Theresa Hart
06:26:16
Does anyone have any ideas for dealing with the death and illness we have all experience through this time? As we get closer to opening up, there is going to be that big realization that not everyone made it through. And for the staff that had to watch our elders die.
Theresa Hart
06:26:36
I am hoping I can get a memorial service
Deborah Parry
06:27:06
Perhaps Covid will shed the light on how vital our role is and what benefits we offer. It worked for teachers. lol
Theresa Hart
06:27:07
And if only we could have some psych assistance for the staff.
Linda Jensen
06:27:30
@Deborah, perhaps!
Theresa Hart
06:27:44
Some of our schools are thinking of not reopening.
Danelle Goerzen
06:27:56
For Theresa--We have a celebration of life service once a quarter, and then a day of remembrance once a year with photos and short bios of each passed friend.
Dawn Kleinfeldt
06:27:58
We luckily have not lost anyone to Covid or even had it knock wood but others have died and it is heartbreaking as it always is for me but even more so because some have gone without having family near them.
Melanie Wallen
06:28:09
We can only hope Deborah! But unfortunately I don't think it will ever change! 16 years in and its the same.....
Deborah Parry
06:28:20
You should speak with your chaplins or other religious representative at your facility to hold a special memorial service
Jean Garver
06:28:24
Yes, that’s very needed because doing this work is very emotional and you try to be all things to all people and burn out is a real issue!
Angela Champlin
06:28:26
I agree Beth. There is so much negativity in the world right now that it is essential we focus on positivity and compassion. This is what will help our residents and us as well.
Sharman Knight
06:28:44
From Sharman Thank you.
zorahayda de vera

#OldPeopleAreCool
Beth Flynn
06:29:53
Yes @ Angela..... we don't need more negativity to add to the daily challenges that we face at work and outside of work daily.....
Theresa Hart
06:29:56
I am the spiritual care rep for our facility. I have Final Harvest ready to come in and perhaps some of our volunteer pastors will be on board.
Cari Boothby
06:29:57
For Theresa, check with any hospice groups you work with in your building. They may have a celebration of life program
Troy Beach
06:30:12

Theresa Hart

Alzheimer's Disease is only one form of dementia, and should be a diagnosis of exclusion. Unfortunately, too many healthcare providers diagnose this prematurely.
Joyce Quintrell
06:33:39

True - many conditions can create dementia-like symptoms; UTIs and dehydration are rampant in long-term care with mistaken diagnoses that suggest permanent dementia such as AD.

06:48:02
This is what the CNAs need to realize. We don' live for ADLs. We do ADLs to live. We live for our fun time, our engagement with others.

My Mom worked till she was 93 at the local library - she was let go - then had two falls and now needs 24/7 care - what a hard thing for her.

joan Cullinane
07:10:30
take it a step further. I model then they quiz me. Let them know why we are singing, to breathe to wake up the face. Don't just make it busy work. I have them do everything. Some of us have very loose connections in our heads, no problem making or changing an activity to fit what is going on or who
