Reminds me of the Rabbi on Fiddler on the Roof: God, Bless and keep the Czar… far away from us
This is what I was referring to: A Daily Dose of TalmudDaf Yomi for Everyone, from My Jewish Learning
Thanks David. I was hoping you would post.
This conversation reminds me of a joke I once heard:
Two Rabbis argued late into the night about the existence of God, and, using strong arguments from the scriptures, ended up indisputably disproving His existence. The next day, one Rabbi was surprised to see the other walking into the shul for morning services. "I thought we had agreed there was no God," he said. "Yes, but still you go to shul!”
I'm getting hungry!
No traif Larry!
uh oh, don't look in our fridge, Christina....
And don't look in mine, Cath!
Not a Catholic, but I would venture to say that there is a good deal of pushback within the Catholic Church and from one congregation to another…women priests, Latin mass, receiving communion, etc. Even with a Pope, I don’t see it as being fundamentally dissimilar.
Agreed, Margie. My Catholic friends don't assiduously adhere to everything the Pope says. They don't see homosexuality as a sin; they use birth control, etc. They have broader views in many ways than what the party line lays down. And that's just human nature - thank goodness. We tend to think for ourselves and be more expansive in our views than what we are told to do by authority figures.
To those who participate in tanach and Torah study on Saturday mornings: I will likely not be able to participate this Shabbat, because I'm having some outpatient throat surgery on Friday. Not a biggie, but I won't be able to talk for 3 -7 days, and I'll be resting as I recover.
Take good care and be kind to yourself, Christina. May you heal fully and quickly and come back to us soon.
Will pray for an easy recovery. Hope you have a speedy one
Thank you, friends.
Bye all...see you "at" Temple!
