Can everyone please mute their microphones unless you are speaking? There is some background noise.
I do have 2 quick things I want to share before we get to NRP
agreed on more communication about events
Utilization of the website/newsletter would be amazing
For anyone interested in my templates to create a contact sheet, method of outreach, and email template to organize your block, my email is Melissa.email@example.com, phone 612-323-47217
Also if you’re interested in petition to recall Mike Freeman let me know
Thank you Melissa, I've been working on a paralell project the past several months - Emily suggested I get in touch with the SENA office to try to expand the network. Are you the point person? : )
As far as organization, it seems like the SENA website is in an unfinished state, has there been any ideas to utilize that for better communication?
I agree with that. I'm a millennial and don't use either facebook or nextdoor.
Thanks Melissa. I’m definitely interested in the recall of Mike Freeman. Our block is meeting tomorrow night.
Mickayla- What would be the best way to reach you?
website was my first place I looked, emails are great
Thank you, that's really helpful
With respect to the vote we are being asked to make, does anyone else think it wise to adjourn pending the sharing of the relevant financials? I've no mic, so post it here. Thank you.
I agree. I won't believe the website is up and running until I see it.
Where please are recent reports re WRBA?
The Annual Report does mention outreach packets re recycling and another program?
That is something that a block leader could help with.
Candace, re the email I sent you, Crime Prevention Specialist Jennifer Neale & Kate Nelson, Jennifer mentioned that some hood orgs have block leader data on deck. Does SENA?
Could a neighborhood welcome be hosted on the website that landlords could distribute to renters, or that they could access themselves? Obviously not a guarantee, but better than nothing that I received (as a renter.)
Thanks Matt, that's a good idea
It clearly states on the 2019 report that was sent to my house that those "new neighbor welcome packets" are sent out. I did not receive one either. I moved here in 2019.
I found out about this Zoom meeting through a helpful mailing. Thank you for sending those out!
I would also like, re the grant fund recipients, to ask why those local shops aren't named? Just from a community building standpoint, if it were my small biz, I'd be wanting the hood to know who and where I was. 'Come see the upgrades' - is there a reason they aren't named?
Candace, I've done an analysis of half the 84 hoods future funding. You're right, many orgs will starve. Ed Felien wasn't interested in the numbers - do you know anyone who might be?
Good idea about the small businesses receiving grants. That would be a great feature on our new website
re cupcake social, the shut down + the smash and grab robbery was too much for them. Could we revisit the request to access home/biz funds specifically in terms of security/safety upgrades? More than one neighbor has asked me about this specifically.
I'm Elizabeth Lindsay, Hi Nathan, you gave me a fire extinguisher at Sibley
And to follow on that last question above, is there a way to access more such gear for the hood?
Will this chat info be saved and sharable later? And will the recording of the meeting be sharable later?
The website could help so you share exactly what you are doing. Honestly, it’s very vague with what we have right now.
When you attend those meetings representing us, it’d be great to have a quick post on social media. Ex: “SENA meeting with Omar discussing X”
Adam Vander Poel (SENA Board)
Thanks for the feedback. We meet every month and generally have 1-2 visitors max and quite frankly very little engagement from the neighborhood. It’s great to see the showing tonight. I encourage everyone with feedback to consider being part of the change and bringing your ideas into action. Note this is largely a volunteer board.
Seconding use of the website/newsletter re making SENA's representation of all of us visible
Many in the flow of the chat
I think you can probably expect a little more neighborhood engagement going forward given how 2020 is going so far.
It helped that this meeting was announced by a mailing. Again - Facebook and NextDoor are not enough.
Kara, did you get an official mailing?
Is the $79,000 specifically earmarked at this point?
Yes, meaning does SENA have plans for it? If it weren't absorbed into the general fund, would it be available for biz/home loans?
All SENA residents should have received a 4 page update in the mail that covered this plan modification, provided a 2019 annual report, and a summary of WBRA activity. The information covered under the plan modification mentioned this meeting. Unfortunately the mailing came last Monday, right after we'd had our mail interrupted, and so I think some people may not have received it
The biz façade program is specifically funded?
If SENA is defacto defunded, what becomes of those grant monies presently meant for SENA hoods? Thank you Emily : )
I have a question…
It seems like there is a lack of transparency
Were the groups charged for use of the space as per the WRBA co working session?
But not about the rezoning of the city. Is there a reason why that wasn't a bulk mail worthy outreach?
I have a suggestion
Also I've asked more than once to volunteer with SENA but gotten no. May I ask why that is if hands are so needed? I've been sending small biz info to the WRBA members whose contact info is current on WRBA. They've said no one else has done that.
Emily, did you say no block clubs in the future? Could you expand?
Regarding the volunteering needs and opportunities, maybe something on the website would be useful.
Elizabeth- My point is that if we defund the police, it may not be a program the police run anymore. That was my only point. I don't have any insider knowledge :)
That explanation helps!
Can you expand on programming? To value you we have to know what SENA is up to, with the greatest respect.
Thank you guys for your work on SENA. I think its fair to say a lot of community members are motivated from recent events to get involved. Sorry if we haven't been present before, but we are here now! I'm happy to volunteer, my email is Mickayla.firstname.lastname@example.org
I'd second that motion
Thank you SENA for running this organization during such a challenging time. I am sure there is a ton of feedback coming from every direction.
yes, vote to wait until next month.
Thank you to all. Even if the next meeting is in person, can we maybe also have the choice to join by Zoom?
Aye - and please promote the next meeting on all channels possible, sincere thanks.
please, that would be great
Yes! I would say it’s also to help those who can’t leave home.
If anyone did not receive the SENA mailing, the page summarizing SENA's 2019 accomplishments is pinned at the top of the SENA Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sena.mpls
Thanks very much
Thanks to Candace, Emerson and the board for your work!
