I am doing a drive by
Beth
22:54
Trying to organize a drive through
Lisa Gramlich
23:14
Drive through where volunteers will pick up lunch for themselves and a guest. A gift will be provided at that time too.
Heidi Reed, Fairfield Medical Center
23:16
I am hoping to host an event at our drive-in movie theater. Staff would serve food to the cars. Hoping we can put together a video of staff expressing appreciation to volunteers to show prior to the movie.
lbacon
23:34
We are doing a drive by with a boxed dinner from the dietary department. Giving cooler bag from Positive Promotions.
jperry
23:39
Minimal. Will probably wait and do something a little later. Perhaps small festivities that week for those reactivated.
Heidi Reed, Fairfield Medical Center
23:58
If that doesn't work out, my back up plan is an outdoor event with music and food trucks. I would be pushing these out to May or June in hopes of good weather.
Amy Saye
23:58
Smaller program this year. Daily emails, mailing a letter of thanks and appreciation. Instead planning a celebration event when volunteers return. Diverting my resources for that this year rather than a traditional volunteer appreciation event.
Kelly Rhodehamel - Dayton Children's Hospital
23:59
Hoping to host a drive-thru ice cream social or sweet treat event. We have logo stemless glasses as gifts.
JKENNEDY
24:29
We are sending a small booklet of notes of appreciation to our volunteers. Notes will be writing about staff and there will also be photos. We also will send a email with a URL link that will include special video of appreciation from the CEO, VP of HR, Director, VS Staff and a few of our department site supversisors
Vickie Newell
24:51
We are going to push the event to the fall in hopes of doing it in person. We will do some sort of thank you/recognition in April but that is yet to be determined. We did a drive by event a month ago and gave them a gift so our April event will not include a gift.
Kim Pinter
26:02
We're delaying our appreciation week and hoping to host a summer ice cream social this summer at our local botanical gardens. Crossing fingers :)
Jessica Goff - Summa Health
26:22
We already had our venue booked for 2020, so we will be utilizing it to do a "drop in". Volunteers will come in and visit a couple tables to get appreciation items, then pick up food and go.
Beth
26:32
Popcorn
Delaughter, Christine
27:26
Considering hosting an outdoor cookout/picnic at the hospital May/June (good weather).
Emily Murgolo
27:31
Hello! We will be providing a small gift for all volunteers (probably a nice pen, about 50) and then for the volunteers (about 15 of them) that have stepped up and been continually volunteering, we are talking about giving a gift card. For the volunteers who have been off and on, they can drive by and we can bring it out to them. We will have a larger celebration during Hospital Week when we usually have our Annual Volunteer Meeting. We had to reschedule our Christmas Party so we are hoping to have a nice, socially-distanced dinner in May for all our volunteers.
Emily Murgolo
28:58
*for the bigger gift something either like a food gift card or larger gift. Last year we gave jackets
Lisa Gramlich
30:45
For those of you that already have hosted a drive through appreciation event...what is the 1 thing you wish you had known first?
Melinda Pitt
31:06
Have volunteers sign up for a time.
Delaughter, Christine
31:26
We are still not accepting new volunteers at this time
Beth
31:27
Currently the on-boarding of new volunteers is on hold
PWright
31:28
not currently recruiting
Amy Saye
32:22
We aren't recruiting new volunteers right now. We are focusing our efforts on bringing back and placing our existing volunteers as hospital restrictions are lifted.
Delaughter, Christine
32:25
Are you using volunteers as wellness screeners??
Jolene Koopmann
32:29
Wellness screeners are paid, correct?
Beth
33:33
What state is the speaker from ?
Lisa Gramlich
33:45
recruitment: This week I have emailed many of past volunteers as a check in to see if this season of life allows for them to return tp service.
Emily Murgolo
33:51
For recruitment, we post on social media (Facebook) spotlighting our Volunteer of the Month, and use that time to also encourage people who may be interested in volunteering to contact us and apply online. Also, in our hospital newsletter, it encourages staff members if they know anyone who is interested to contact us. On our website, there is a Volunteer page where they can learn more about opportunities and apply online. Also by word of mouth from other volunteers.
Sara Camic
34:05
Onboarding of new volunteers is on hold until at least August/Sept. We're still trying to get our current vols back!
monica guidry
34:55
from Lafayette LA
NovakK
35:08
New volunteers are on hold
Delaughter, Christine
35:12
We're finding a spike in volunteer applications because they think we'll give them a vaccine
monica guidry
35:24
We are not yet recruiting. focusing on bringing back our volunteers first.
Robin Goldberg
35:27
Types of virtual volunteer programs/projects? TY!!
monica guidry
36:24
could everyone include their state in their chat - thank you
Sara Camic
36:31
Christine we took our online application off the website to avoid those types of problems
Ellie Schaffer
36:44
yes
Melinda Pitt
37:34
I am from Iowa
Emily Murgolo
37:35
I had volunteers ask if their spouses could get the vaccine but no one yet has come to volunteer to get vaccine. Our clinic is about to end too. We are smaller however.
cbiagini
37:45
continue to take applications, but, respond not currently bringing new folks onboard. just getting ready to bring back folks
Melinda Pitt
37:52
yes, for spouses
Ellie Schaffer
37:54
yes
Sara Camic
38:10
Yes, we had volunteers want vaccines for their spouses and kids
cbiagini
38:24
caviat to returning is must have a covid vaccine
Amy Saye
38:25
We tell them we are following CDC and DPH guidelines and can only give vaccines to those under the Phase 1A release.
Donna May
38:28
I am accepting applications and hopefully will start onb0arding in March. Huntington WV
Sandy
38:34
Yes and we told them that unfortunately they had to go through the normal channels. They were frustrated but did it that way. Our hands were tied.
Melinda Pitt
38:36
I am dealing with a very irate husband right now.
Marie Howell
38:57
Same here in Texas
Beth
39:05
Our volunteers were permitted to become vaccinated early on. However, the State of NJ took over all scheduling and it has been very hard for volunteers to get vaccinated now due to the lack of vaccinations available. Frustrating for everyone
Michelle McCann
39:58
I have had the same issue with asking for family members. I offer to assist them get an appointment.
Jessica Goff - Summa Health
40:03
Our staff and volunteers are no longer eligible because the phase for employees and volunteers has past. They now need to wait until their age group is eligible.
Sandy Wooten
40:14
times up! your friendly timekeeper, Sandy
Melinda Pitt
40:29
I was able to vaccinate early on, now we don't have more, so it is very frustrating!!
Sara Camic
40:30
Interesting Jessica.
Cara Ranft, Riverside Methodist Hospital
41:00
Sara, we are in Ohio so we are the same as Jessica
monica guidry
41:36
We were very fortunate that our volunteers, as part of our system, were able to receive the vaccine early on. Most took advantage of it. Now, our state (LA) has lowered the age, so those who fit the criteria are able to schedule.
Sara Camic
41:45
I guess KY is doing rolling groups. Like we're starting 1C next week but if you're in 1A and you missed the boat the first time you can still get it
Emily Murgolo
41:49
The CCU Waiting Room right now
cbiagini
42:51
no volunteers will be allowed to visit as ambassadors in patient rooms nor will I return anyone to the ED at the present time
Emily Murgolo
43:01
Our Day Surgery area is open, however only one visitor allowed
Jessica Goff - Summa Health
43:53
Our unit programs are temp suspended. However we do have wayfinding, SDS ambassador, outpatient ambassadors and one ED assignment open.
Sandy
43:55
Currently sending out a Needs Assessment survey to our departments to see if there are additional things our volunteers can do. There are positions that they will probably not be allowed to do such as screening.
Melinda Pitt
44:07
I have just been approved to put volunteers in our ED and our patient rooms as ambassadors. I am a critical assess hospital so a little bit of a different boat for me. I work with nearby college and using pre-med students.
Amy Saye
44:16
Do you see this as a concern for future volunteers who are interested in patient contact? We aren't going to be having it either, but I am concerned that it will discourage some volunteers who want that hands on impact.
Tish Mailloux
44:25
We are doing the same with a Needs Assessment to our departments. Getting mixed results.
Delaughter, Christine
44:50
Has anyone brought dogs back yet?
Beth
45:09
Would anyone be willing to share the Needs Assessment they are sending out to the departments?
Michelle McCann
45:27
Yes we have brought back our volunteer pet therapy. Only to our staff
Melinda Pitt
45:30
No dogs, that has been an obstacle for me to bring back.
Cara Ranft, Riverside Methodist Hospital
45:32
Just an FYI for everyone...members of the SHVL Board can easily be identified by the SHVL video background :)
Sara Camic
45:35
I would also love to see a template on the needs assessment
Sandy
45:38
Sorry not connected with audio
Sandy
45:43
just listening
Marie Howell
45:44
We are a pediatric hospital so were able to bring back patient facing volunteers back in June and more in September. All other placements are still on hold although staff has requested their return. Admin is not ready for them to return yet.
Tish Mailloux
45:53
I can speak to that
Sandy
46:02
I can see you but not talk
Robin Goldberg
46:28
Sara Camic, me too! Would love to see a needs assessment document!

Hospital in KY has brought back dogs for staff only https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/kenton-county/edgewood/st-elizabeths-frontline-workers-get-some-occupational-therapy-in-the-form-of-four-legged-friends
Robin Goldberg
47:06
Will you allow volunteers who are NOT vaccinated to come in?
Delaughter, Christine
47:34
Yes, we do not REQUIRE anyone to have the vaccine - employees, vols, drs, etc.
Sara Camic
47:47
Vaccines are not required at our hospital for anyone. Same as Christine.
Amy Saye
48:06
We aren't requiring the vaccination for staff so we can't require it for volunteers. But, we definitely would restrict their access to certain areas in the hospital.
Jodie Skoff
48:07
Our volunteers are not yet vaccinated and are volunteering. Same- not required for employees.
Marie Howell
48:31
We are not requiring the vaccine since we don't for employees but we are keeping track of those that receive it in cast it becomes mandatory in the future.
Tish Mailloux
49:07
I can share ours
NovakK
49:20
Thank you for sharing!
Robin Goldberg
49:20
If you DO share the template, will it go onto the DHVL website somewhere?
Sara Camic
49:40
Thanks, Tish!!
Jenelen
50:07
We also did a survey and will email to SHVL
Lisa Gramlich
50:29
I added an assistant to the surgery waiting room
Marie Howell

Virtual check in for parents by our FAC parents.

Not sure its a program but rather having Virtual Town Hall Meetings. Great way to communicate with volunteers
jperry
51:18
Found a few new clerical roles through constant persistence while looking for roles to reactivate.
Beth
51:19
We have a new Patient Engagement Follow up Call program in which volunteers are making calls to discharged patients. Great results so far - plan to continue to grow the program
Tish Mailloux
51:25
Our Patient Experience team will be piloting a Caregiver's Support program, and have asked for volunteer help.
monica guidry
51:35
Added volunteers to Human Resources Information Desk. Will keep as this is an non-patient-care building. Laf LA
jean_payne@memorial.org
52:31
We have used volunteers to assist with Community Vaccination Fairs for the underserved
Robin Goldberg
54:10
We created new Pen Pal program that we will keep: we have student volunteers who are happy to write back and forth to our rehab patients (we're a rehab hospital in Westchester County, NY)
Kim Pinter
55:41
Hello, I'm from JPS Health in Fort Worth, Texas. Great conversation.
Marie Howell
55:54
Hi Kim!
cbiagini
56:07
would love it if the questions can be shared for PFAC
Michelle McCann
56:13
Thank you Kim for joining!
Delaughter, Christine
56:31
We have had MANY deployed staff (not getting enough hours in their units) working in Volunteer Services. They have a whole new appreciation for the role of volunteers - they had no idea how hard they worked!!
Anna Marie Wuerthner
57:28
Christine - can you elaborate on that? Do you have the staff helping in areas where volunteers usually work, or are they assisting you in Volunteer Services management?
Jenelen
58:09
Not a new role - but a new process.. We altered our Annual Training to offer a "voice over" of the presentation (like a recorded webinar without any audience). That way the listener still gets the benefit of the "extra" information that I had included in the in-person presentations. Will keep that as an option instead of just offering the PowerPoint.
Robin Goldberg
58:37
We have a Caregiver Support Center, and program here at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY!
cbiagini
01:00:08
volunteer to assist in specified outdoor covid vaccine. volunteer will drive the golf cart to get elders from parking lot to front door.
Delaughter, Christine
01:00:09
Anna Marie - these are employees who are not getting hours in their regular dept, and they are supporting us in areas where volunteers would normally serve. Tasks such as all deliveries, patient discharges, wayfinding, etc
monica guidry
01:00:47
Not able to be heard. Volunteers answer phones and transfer to appropriate HR person; filing, scanning, greeting and directing persons to appropriate areas
Jenelen
01:01:35
Paws for Patients for staff only. Been very successful
Michelle McCann
01:02:12
The handlers must be masked and sanitizer is used this is only with our staff. Of course patients for outpatient services always get to pet if they are in the area.
Melinda Pitt
01:02:32
This is the one program that my CNO thinks that patients will be upset seeing the dog since we only allow one visitor.
Jill Mondry
01:02:40
Yes, we returned pet therapy in November and everything has gone very well. We are a children's hospital in FL. Having trouble with mic so not sure if I can share info verbally. We are everywhere except ED and outpatient clinics.
Jessica Goff - Summa Health
01:02:41
We have only done window visits with our dogs.
Anna Marie Wuerthner
01:03:02
No audio to share, but our ATD Pet Therapy volunteers returned on Friday (TDI not permitted). They are visiting employees only, going to areas that only employees frequent. Hand sanitizing before and after. We're letting them roam the hospital to employee areas, but mainly seating them at employee entrances.
Sara Camic
01:06:54
Our pet therapy coordinator has been trying to do online visits with staff, but it's hard to keep the dogs engaged online and definitely not the same. I don't really know anything else about it.
Sara Camic
01:07:23
I could connect anyone to her via email if you want more information.
Robin Goldberg
01:08:25
We have done virtual pet therapy - 10 minutes sessions over ipads. Cute!!!

Online with Retail Concepts and Superior Scrubs. Did a Dillard's sale in store in December.
Sandy Wooten
01:11:43

cbiagini
01:12:49
Rata cutlery and linen company did virtual sales for the auxiliary. set up on the company web site; cc used for purchase and shipping direct to the customer. percentage given to the auxiliary. not large profits; but, better than no profit.
Melinda Pitt
01:12:53
Had some that worked, others not. Not- Collective Goods, Heartland, Nutman. Good- Walnut Grove fudge sale. Will be trying a salsa sale in time for Cinco de Mayo. Had a in person scrub sale for staff only.
lbacon
01:13:55
We are going to look into setting up a "round UP" in our dietary department
Sara Camic
01:14:39
Fudge and salsa sales??? That sounds amazing! Are you working with local vendors?
JKENNEDY
01:14:40
We have done a one day in-store Macy's event and preshop week at Belks. Merchandise for the Belk preshop week were brought to the hospital for employees to pickup and complete their payroll deduction form.
Emily Murgolo
01:14:43
We usually have two scrub sales in our large meeting place a year and two Masquerade sales. The scrub sale vendor is not going to hospitals yet, but we have ideas if they are willing to do one this year. Our volunteers are down there anyways, taking Payroll Deduct payments. Our plan is to have the volunteers as the "gatekeepers" and can help limit how many people come in so there can be proper social distancing. The vendor has not provided online sales yet.
jean_payne@memorial.org
01:15:26
We have had online sales with Collective Goods, Southern Comfort Linens, Retail Concepts and Dynamic Shopping if anyone is interested in reaching out to these vendors to try online sales.
Delaughter, Christine
01:15:57
Kelly, you have done an OUTSTANDING job moderating this meeting! THANK YOU!!!
