Please answer here.

44:50
Really great responses.

51:58
I love this activity, very eye opening.

58:35
Yes, Dawn. That comment is dismissive. We need to see color because it impacts our daily lives.

01:00:09
white privilege is real and we white people need to recognize how this impacts everything including and especially systemic racism

01:01:02
Correct, Thelma!

01:01:10
We should be seen.

01:01:21
I don't think i'm seeing everyone's comments.

01:03:24
should we use the chat box or the Q and A box?

01:04:52
Great point!

01:06:02
We will cover more in depth a bit later on Hispanic/ Latino/ Latinx identity

01:06:22
inter-generational trauma is also a form of trauma

01:07:17
Yes, you are right inter-generational trauma is another form of trauma.

01:09:07
Agree, you're so right

01:16:47
So you can imagine how our black young men feel just living their livs

01:17:32
I am a black man and sometimes live in a little fear of what is going on in this world

01:18:18
Regina, do you want to add yours?

01:21:45
Gloria, check to see if you volume is off.

01:22:28
Thank you Vanessa for sharing your identify as an Afro-Latina.

01:25:09
Thank you for answering the origin of LatinX I'm Latina/Hispanic and didn't know the origin of it.

01:26:34
Great summary on the origins of LatinX. :)

01:27:35
I wanted to share that Asian community also differs from just Asian. I myself identify as SouthAsian Indian who is American Born.

01:30:23
I think that if a person becomes sensitive to someone being offended, they should address it with the offender because sometimes people that are discriminated against tend not to address it as they don't want to raise issues. If you feel it address it, maybe one on one with the alleged offender

01:30:46
I believe it is important to correct those unintentional microaggressions as a means of educating others

01:30:50
thankyou!

01:31:17
Yes I agree Sandra

01:34:36
I have cried every day this week. I completely understand.

01:35:04
i too have cried daily. thanks for sharing. we understand

01:35:35
Same, I've cried more during the last three weeks than all of last year.

01:35:46
Having a therapy session and mindfulness helped me. Also speaking to friends and praying.

01:36:06
How do you deal when others minimize your experience…I had a white colleague get offended and “go off” because I didn’t wants shoes with a white character on them. As a black woman with a 1 year old I have to over compensate with black imagery to help and build my daughters self esteem before she faces the world… Instead of seeking to understand my perspective she pretty much called me a racist….. minimizing my experience.
What do you do with that when they minimize our experiences

01:37:45
Tears are okay, and to share your feelings with safe people. It is painful to think about the danger your son or spouse, and the family member can face for being black and brown. It is okay to cry.

01:38:18
I suggest that you use your EAP if you do not have a therapist

01:39:22
That Sesame Street Town Hall was exceptional. I agree.

01:41:19
Tamara, this is a good point and question. we can ask this question in the next Q&A time. It is a great question to explore here on how to be there for those crying and hurting, when we are not black ourselves.

01:41:50
Yes! That is soo true! I had to learn to do eye contact I keep getting trouble in school when teachers were not getting eye contact from me!

01:44:12
We hold our traumas and stressors in our muscles in our bodies, we can't heal totally until released. The Body Keeps the Score

01:44:45
Fssdcps,.. that is a great book.

01:45:27
it is was able to take the 2 day training that Dr. Bessel gives.

01:46:33
That's a great training, and great book. Trauma is felt in our neurobiology and physiology.

01:49:11
Think about all the energy put into just explaining to our black children what they HAVE to do just to come home safely every night; Imagine if all that energy was put into teaching them to reach for the stars and that they could be anything that they want to be. Imagine if they could put that energy of being scared into being the best they could be.

01:50:44
agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

01:52:55
This training is amazing

01:53:19
i completely agree!

01:53:37
Truly a well put together training!

01:56:53
I agree!

01:57:04
nameless condition, could it be due to the dominate culture that dominates the DSM board??

01:57:43
Aisha thank you for doing the emotional labor necessary to put on this exemplary training despite the depth of pain you’ve been feeling and experiencing the past few weeks. That is not easy to do, I really don’t know if I could have.

02:05:21
Great training. I wish everyone would watch this.

02:05:57
I agree that the nameless condition is related to the dominant culture dominating the DSM Board. However, I have to disagree that there is a scarcity of research on the effects racial trauma has on mental health. There are many black psychologists who have researched and published their findings. The issue is that black voices are not validated and believed; even 'educated' black voices. Look up Dr. Joy DeGruy and Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, just to name two.

02:06:08
Please, type your questions as we will be going over some of these before ending the training. We want to hear your questions and comments. Thank You for your participation and for being here.

02:09:21
Aisha, thank you so much for this wonderful presentation. It was well researched and developed. So applicable, especially at this time. More people need to be educated on these topics. How can I get a copy of the recording? Thank you so much.

02:11:07
Amen Awesome point

02:11:11
Yes I agree and yes I agree that there is a lot of research out that that is valid and important that is being ignored

02:11:15
Yes, it will be available on our website. www.unitedwaybroward.org

02:12:27
we will absolutely make this available for everyone.

02:12:34
