Hello there! Lovely to be here Liggy, many thanks for the invite
Good afternoon everyone. looking forward to this Liggy.
Good Afternoon everyone
Hello to all!
Very soggy in Cheltenham isn't it :( I'm making a slow cooker recipe whilst listening!
Eleanor Lloyd Jones
Yes am looking forward to picking up lots of hints and tips for winter wellbeing
Hiya - just had a very heavy shower but sunny again now in Berkshire
we had strong winds and hail here in High Wycombe!
hello everyone! Grey and cloudy here in Durham :(
Little grey in Nunthorpe too.
Finding the positive - I popped out at lunchtime to get some daylight and enjoyed seeing the beautiful autumn colours in the trees!
Sounds lovely Jemma, we’re moving our running to the start of the day
That's me - I need to get out of the house more
Me too! Stuck in wfh
Difficult to get any daylight when working from an office 9-5 in winter
definitely agree with getting outside everyday, really helps when wfh
I use a lightbox for my SAD & it's fab! I put it on while I'm getting ready in the morning & I can feel my batteries charging!
I also get out with the dogs at least twice a day!
You could schedule in a lunch hour so that nobody can book a meeting with you, then use the time to go for a walk. Even if you just wander round the garden with a cuppa :)
I have just brought one so will see
that's exactly what i have done Jemma and i get left alone!
Jemma I do this and people still put meetings in at this time!!
That's good Hazel! It works. Great tip about the light box Lois.
That's a good tip - I might even be able to get out for a run at lunchtime which would be better than going in the dark!
I might start to do that
@Val, that's a shame - maybe they need to learn from you ;)
@Jemma I will have to start declining the meetings.
3 bean chilli in the slow cooker right now!
Eleanor Lloyd Jones
Sounds lovely Annabelle!
You can do it @Val, be strong! A few of us in our workplace have started doing that and it does make a nice difference.
Folks - this is my worry. Ive already gained half a stone in lockdown and don't want to put on more
Oh I don’t drink nearly enough! I get up less often at home - thought it would be more
I've also put on over a stone, Claire. Please don't shame yourself. It's been a very difficult time xx
@Claire- i was the same but what i have founded useful is tracking my calories on MyFitnessPal and i've been listening to James Smith's podcasts which has helped a ton!
I have green tea, peppermint, or just lemon in hot water helps the water intake especially in this weather
Thanks Annabelle - yes its hard isnt it x
but don't beat yourself up, we are all in a difficult situation together!
Good reminder regarding water!
Vit D needs green veg to be absorbed properly
I try not to tack calories (just personal preference) but finding a group of people to talk to about it has helped me to stay on track!
Will have to get back in to the lemon in hot water - it’s lovely
Eleanor Lloyd Jones
I've started adding lime to hot water recently, that's lovely too
Oooh nice tip!
The Calm app also has a gratitude reminder.
Love the Calm app
i struggle quite a lot with sleep!
Sorry am late. I seem to be the only person with improved sleep since working at home
tried lavender and all sorts but struggle to drop off.
Didn’t know it had a gratitude reminder - I’ll have a look
I struggle with sleep too!
I drink valerian tea from Pukka
Careful with that around cats though - it’s like cat nip!
Valerian always makes me drowsy the next day
@Laura, it's in settings then reminders
Doing things for others is the best mood lifter (as long as your own energy levels are topped up sufficiently)
@Trudy - totally agree.
Any tips for getting up in the morning when feeling down/sluggish?
Just what I was about to ask about motivating myself to get out - I'm very good at making excuses not to.
Anyone practice a magic morning routine? Gratitude journal, meditate, 5 minutes of exercise, cold shower. When I can, it's great!
add it to your to-do list
I can only motivate myself when I'm going somewhere so I go and get a coffee or plan to meet someone
action 4 happiness is BRILLIANT
I try to think about something I am looking forward to doing that day. Also I happen to love breakfast - so that often spurs me to get up and get on so I can enjoy it
Agreed, Action 4 Happiness is great. They also have some inspiring webinars.
This has been really great, mid week blues has been a real killer of motivation for me. I've started to do Couch to 5K and signed up to the Move-tember movement to try motivate myself to go outside more!
love that - refuse the snooze
Well done @Charlie, good luck with Cto5km, it's so great.
@Joanne, It's Movember, but I am incapable of growing any form of moustache, so I found out there is also a move-tember that's run by the same charity! The aim os to walk or Run 60K in the month
Thanks Jemma! :)

I'm keeping a list of positive things I can do over the winter rather than thinking about the things that we can't do this year
Can we access the posters please - if so where as cannot find on your website. Thank you.
You can use mindfulness practice for sleep. There are some great videos on youtube
No bother Joanne!
Finding a hobby you can switch off with helps I started doing some art during lockdown. Im not good but she does things that are simple and fun.
@ Eleanor love that Can do attitude
headspace also have a podcast which is free and is a great thing to use for a daily mediattion practice
I've found turning the TV off and putting gmy phone down for an hour before bed has been really helpful for improving my sleep too
Two litres seems SO much, but great for skin and energy levels
I've been leaving my phone downstairs overnight for the last week & I've been sleeping a lot better!
Digital detox before bed helps with sleep
@Trudy I agree! I had to make sure I was taking time to stop and drink
@Charlie glad am not the only one :-)
Make sure your light box is medically certified - there’s lots on amaxon
@Lois, th next step for me is to take it out my bedroom completely, I'm glad you're finding success doing this!
Daylight bulbs make a difference?
Very wise re charge phone away from bedroom- digital detox and rest is easier and not tempted to check in middle of night
Reframe the darkness as a beautiful thing, and the rain as life giving and essential
Love that @Edward
I am subscribed to the Newsletter - it is great.
@Edward much joy to be had from all seasons, you're right
I have a bottle with timings on it which is good for me!
@Annabelle I have one of those too
Have another webinar sorry, but thanks for your time, good to meet you all x
You can buy a water bottle with times of the day down the side so each hour you drink the amount of water between that hour on the bottle
