Yes, Twitter is your best friend in starting relationships with reporters
Julia Williams
53:45

If you realize that news is breaking, *before an article comes out* —that is a good time to reach reporters also ( you have to do it asap)
Joie (she/her) People's Action
59:40
and on twitter it happens iNSTANTLY which is great
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:01:34
and sometimes a tweet from a reporter on your issue is great in itself, since they have huge followings
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:02:29
always have something to offer to reporters, be it video, pictures, interviews with folks, reports or background info
Robin EH Bagley Powder River Staff
01:02:57
We also help amplify the stories they do on our issues by retweeting or if we do an original tweet with a link & a graphic, we always the reporter & the news outlet -- then they realize we are helping them & they value that
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:03:18
^^ great tip! symbiotic relationship
Karen Feridun
01:04:06
I used to teach Twitter 101 for Fractivists. It's the single most important places to be online, IMO.
Julia Williams
01:04:13
Do you recommend messaging reporters from our personal accounts or from our org accounts?
Robin EH Bagley Powder River Staff
01:04:32
We have a media list with every bit of info we can capture
Ally Ratkowski-Howe (She/Her)
01:06:20
How frequently should we post on Twitter? Is consistency important?
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:07:42
To Julia's question, whichever profile seems more 'legitimate'. If you have cultivated more followers and a cult of personality on your personal account, use that one. If you don't have a profile picture yet and have only tweeted about pancakes, maybe not.
Julia Williams
01:08:23
^ thanks!
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:09:30
To Ally's question, yes, you should post enough so that your profile doesn't look 'stale' or like a ghost of what was. This doesn't mean you need to tweet every hour but make sure when you do tweet it is meaningful.
Ally Ratkowski-Howe (She/Her)
01:10:32
Okay great, thanks
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:10:48
E&E is great!
Kate Krauss
01:11:47

Ranjana Bhandari
01:13:40

Jamie Rayman (she/her)
01:14:44

Julia Williams
01:14:58
Can you drop a link of where we would find that info?
Justin Thompson (he/him/his)
01:15:01
Who's the best person to reach out to like that?
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:15:27
^ yes Ranjana, give them everything they could possibly need
Julia Williams
01:15:31
Has anyone had success with online press conferences?
Joie (she/her) People's Action
01:16:03
^ yes! we have! We had a Zoom presser for our Homes Guarantee team and had Reuters, CBS, Bloomberg on and a few others
Julia Williams
01:17:20
@Joie anything you are doing specifically to make those successful? Ours haven’t generated much participation from press. But we used to have good coverage in person.
