WHAT DO I DO NEXT?- halachic and medical expertise to the COVID crisis- The Jewish approach - Shared screen with speaker view
Dr. Edward Gratz
Are there guidelines to prioritize who gets a ventilator if resources are scarce?
Ventilators are only one of the scarce resources for care. ASR does not specifically address the other scarcities like remdesivir and PPE both for the health care workers and for the families who cannot be with their families. Halachic response? Medical response
What is your sense of how these ongoing riots will reflect the number of newly diagnosed cases?
How are your thoughts about eating outside ( without masks) at restaurants and sitting and touching outside furniture
For remdesivir there are clearly more patients who qualify for the medication by current guidelines than available medication. Most of our systems have developed a “lottery” system to equitably disperse the medication to qualified patients. For PPE, systems have liberalized their allowance of visitors at the bedside based on their availability of PPE for their providers.
we've read that the length of exposure has a huge impact on the likelihood of catching the virus. is this built in to the end of life visitation equation?
what is the Halachic balance between opening the economy so people can earn money to feed an$ house themselves, and the need to isolate to avoid spreading the disease?
what are your thoughts about changing your shoes from outside to inside shoes
Many with compromised immune systems are not able to take vaccines without health risk. Others just refuse b/c they see it as a government interference. Is there enough people who will take it to develop herd immunity?
Thank you so much!! so informative
