Where did you say you were based, Rita? Interested in hearing how a conventional school learns to adopt SDE concepts.

I am based in Los Angeles, CA

It is very loud in the cafe where I am, so I will just post here. I am Amit, originally from India, currently pursuing my PhD in education from Michigan State Univ. I am visiting Seattle and for a change I am missing the Michigan Weather. It’s unbelievably hot here in Seattle today and hence I had to come to the cafe (for the AC). I have learnt that while engaging with the Government (or any other institution) you still need to keep the focus on the person.

Yes! that was a huge piece of learning for me as well. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of change I can effect by bearing that in mind.

Is the morning routine ‘mandatory’?
Penny Camps

Thank you for this. Given the space young people find their way to critical associations….like Sugar addiction perpetuating the slave trade

How do you navigate when children aren't wanting to participate?
Rita Bouchard
49:55
I have the same experience at my school. Children are there 2 days and can choose an alternate plan if the project isn't interesting to them.

I have seen the virtual art gallery and was amazed by the creativity of the artwork - I thought many were worthy of being exhibited in any art gallery :-)

How are children introduced to things they do not know about? If they have no awareness of aspects of a topic they can’t ask for it. How is the inspiration to expand perception handled?

Gratitude Anil I need to leave . But this was great
Amit Sharma

I think you captured it really well, Kathryn. In my experience having these “side” conversations and not treading the expected line becomes all the more important. While online accords us new opportunities, I prefer in-person experiences though!
Cian

I feel the smaller group is more intimate and a better facsimile of in person.

It felt that way in our little session just now. I appreciated that.

I am thankful to everyone and wish to express my gratitude to all for letting me participate even when I could not turn on my microphone. This has made me wonder about the issue of accessibility and how different accommodations can be so libertaing and helpful :)
