sorry having problems with internet- kept on getting kicked off-
Joey
01:12:02
I have a question
Kim Parker
01:14:34
For Eric Adams- how do we protect officers who come forward to disclose bad behavior of fellow officers?
Mindy Rosier-Rayburn
01:15:41
David, Fran, Kim in that order for questions
Bob Wyman
01:16:26
Question: Education in prisons was touched on briefly. Could you say what specifically we need to do to strengthen or replace the existing programs? If you could write a new law or regulation to help, what would it say?
Mindy Rosier-Rayburn
01:17:03
After Kim. then bob
Ruth Conner
01:17:06
Our desperately broken healthcare system aside, COVID's greatest arena of horror is NYC schools. Students NOT being in school is really bad, the poor quality of many schools notwithstanding. Is there anything that we can do to help these children?
jsino
01:18:05
I know firat hand about education in prison- my son could only get a GED which he got he didn't get opportunity to go to college there- when out went to vESID vocational school
charles Khan
01:20:52
@Ruth fund the schools. They are already cutting counselors and teachers because of funding cuts. We can’t ensure kids are safe in school and that we have remote learning in addition to traditional learning if they don’t have resources.
Joey
01:24:06
Thank you Janella, Charles & Luana! Very powerful & insightful
charles Khan
01:24:18
Just to clarify I wasn’t talking about education in prisons. I was making the point that many of our schools look like jails. Schools with metal detectors and police officers but no counselors
Gerald Pannozzo
01:28:33
Big Thank You to all the speakers and those who but this program together - Very Informative!
Bob Wyman
01:29:01
Many NYC schools are still heated with oil which produces a great deal of PM2.5, particulate pollution, that aggravates diabetes, asthma, etc. We need clean heating and cooling in our schools. Kids should be educated in schools, not poisoned.
Mindy Rosier-Rayburn
01:37:00
evelyn, you are next
Mindy Rosier-Rayburn
01:42:16
evelyn, then josephine
Barbara
01:46:15
Big Thank you Janella.
Barbara
01:47:22
Yes Luana. Schools as community centers.
Stephanie Dean
01:48:15
Yes, Janella. So great to hear from you.
Bob Wyman
01:48:19
We have ROTC as a means to prepare people to get into the military. If we want more minorities in the police department, do we have, or should we have, an ROTC-like program for kids to prepare to become police while they are still in school?
T. Elzora Cleveland
01:48:30
Absolutely Luana. Great to see you.
Melonie Smith
01:50:13
we need a plan to make sure these children wear their masks
Melonie Smith
01:50:25
they don't wear them now
Michael Schreiber
01:53:58
Great job - thoughtful meeting
David Kazansky
01:54:14
Great conversation
Janella Hinds
01:55:28
@Bob there are partnerships with the NYPD that provide opportunities for students to start to work in public safety. In addition, there are schools of public service and law enforcement that lay the foundation for those who are interested in pursuing these careers.
jsino
01:55:54
good meeting
David Warren
01:56:18
give traffic enforcement back to the department of transportation
Steven
01:58:34
Mindy - Donathan...
Bob Wyman
02:00:49
Janelle, but ROTC provides scholarships for those in the programs. Scholarships would make it easier for many to get the college requirements needed to qualify for the force. Does the City support or provide scholarships for future police officers?
Janella Hinds
02:03:28
Bob, I don’t know if those kinds of scholarships exist. There are many opportunity for school-career pipelines to be created so that NYC students are able to transition seamlessly to professions in education, public service, medicine, and related careers.
Janella Hinds
02:03:38
