does the club require all members to demonstrate their rescue skills yearly?

at what water temp is immersion gear recommended?
Caroline Ross

Hi Daniel, at this point, we don't require this. (We go on each member's word that they can perform the skills competently.) However, this is something the Board has been discussing. This year, we will absolutely require all club hosts to demonstrate competence in wet exits and leading assisted rescues.

Daniel: The club also organizes ocean rescue practice sessions with certified instructors in the spring (in normal, non-COVID years)! These are a great opportunity for members to practice and/or brush up on wet exit and assisted rescue skills before they get back on the water. This year, we'll be offering ocean rescue practice sessions once we have the go ahead to resume club activities.

Hi Caroline, this is Chantal, Daniel and I joined together. I’m a PC Level 1 Instructor and a huge proponent of Rescue skills, hence my question. If the dates work, I’d be happy to help with rescue practices.

doing open water crossings with a group do you recommend a specific formation such as 3,3 and 3?

you refer to “leaders” which we are not by definition as we are “hosts” although we as hosts are seen as leaders without enough authority?

some of us like to fish while on a day paddle or during an expedition. how would you handle this situation if half the group is not interested in waiting for the fish to be caught?
