Sorry, am I supposed to be able to view people's comments in this chat bar? The only comments I can see are the people who are leading the seminars...
It depends on how people ask the question - they can ask it to all or just to panelists.
If the link is not working for you Jennifer, this one would also be an option - http://bit.ly/lb-secretpath2019
I forgot it was the 8th today, and I missed the beginning as my music player was one when the zoom window popped up...is the document on screen a copy of the mapping activity that is listed on the lnks you provided?
Yes, it is, Audrey. Hi!
I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything important...and I didn't get a chance to look at the lesson/activities you listed but is there an adapted form so that if we wanted to use these as remote learning tools for individuals?
I'm walking 804 kms from Toronto to Quebec City. 6.83 days if I went 24 hours a day
one that I did look at was for a classroom group setting but I would like to use it as individual remote learning packs...is there a way I can do that?
Tsiigehtchic to Yellowknife would take at least 25 days to walk over different terrain and areas that are not populated
25 days?!? Ouch
I live in Wasa BC, the Capital is Victoria, I would need to travel 535.47km to Vancouver, there are 5 mountain passes, then I need to take a boat 107km. There is usually a town in each valley.
I live in North Vancouver BC heading to Victoria. If I can take a car and a ferry it would take me about 6 hours. (if the ferry is on time). If I had to walk and swim - I would never make it there.
A. Waterloo to Toronto- about 120km; B. Lakes, forests; C. 1-2 days; D. Backpack, sleeping bag, prepared food, cash; E. Restaurants, hotels, gas stations
I believe we are using Teams
The link Lisa mentioned is: https://legacyschoolresources.ca/
3. a) 114 kb) Farmer’s fields, country roads, towns and hamlets, escarpment, major highway, larger cities, Great Lakec) By foot: 22h 30 m. By car: 1 hour 30 minutes (with good traffic!)d) By foot: money, water, proper footwear and clothing, shelter. Currently I do not have proper footwear for such a journey on foot, no. By car I could make it reasonably as I am still at work and have all I need for such a car tripe) Many, many options – family and friends live along the way, hotels and motels if I didn’t, in my car but if on foot then I could try shelter in nature (ie forests), or under bridges in extreme weather case
I am using ProProf and I can embed videos in the page for students
We would know exactly where we are if it was in our language.
I am assuming that if the map was in a first language, the icons might be in familiar pictures and land marks
Hello Everyone,I live in Toronto...I'm going to use Ottawa I suppose as my destination. I know it's about 4 & 1/2 - 5hrs drive. I'm going to guess at least 48-72hrs to walk there if that's non-stop. So with stoppages and not knowing where I am or where I'm going I'm going to then guess 5-6 days I also have no idea of any Secret Path I could take besides the Highways
If the map were in our own language, we might have been able to tell that the distance we needed to travel was too far away.
Yeah I would have guessed fairly well but that's also because my location is fairly simple and I've lived and travelled in this region all my life (ie between Dunnville and Toronto). Also I cheated pretty quickly and used Google Maps lol
I lived in Dryden and moved to Ottawa two months ago so I know the terrain would have been hilly and long.
Does anyone here have an idea for an activity that they would like to share?
I just asked a Gwichin friend of mine that is in her 20's if she had heard of "The Secret Path". She hasn't
sorry but im getting called away...thanks for the info and I look forward to checking out all the links :)
Thanks for all the great ideas.
Storytelling and Secret Path - http://bit.ly/LB-SecretPath - great for middle school and younger students.
I’ve us the book Shi-Shi-Etko as a study guide in Grade 5 that highlights a young journey learning from each family member before she leaves to residential school. Students can choose a craft or activity to do at home that connects them to their culture or loved ones. https://www.cbc.ca/books/shi-shi-etko-1.4839287
Yes, we will share the recording of this event.
