Hi Chica, the info on how to look up how long the term is for the seat you are running for will be in the follow-up packet. Michael will also show you during his presentation right now how to look that up using the City Clerk's candidate filing pages

It looks like Mid-City West is not up for an election this cycle. Is that right?
Pete Watts
01:27:48
It looks like pico union is not up for election cycle is that correct?
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
01:28:23

How does an applicant verify what personal information submitted is provided to coordinators alone and what is ever made PUBLIC?
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
01:29:28
Hi Pete, Pico Union will have an election this cycle. The candidate filing period for Region 6 has closed.

This list shows all Neighborhood Council election timelines in alphabetical order: http://tiny.cc/2021NCElectionTimelines. At the bottom of that list are a few names of Neighborhood Councils who are not participating in the elections this season, as only 91 of the 99 Neighborhood Councils are holding elections in 2021.

Do you have to be specific about which seat? I.e- if you live and work in the region, and also qualify for other eligible seats, or are you able to run for multiple seats? Apologies if that's a silly question.
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
01:32:09
Hi Carol, you can view Sec. 8.3 in the 2021 NC Election Handbook to see what information is or is not subject to disclosure under the CA Public Records Act here: https://clerk.lacity.org/sites/g/files/wph606/f/2021_NC_Election_Handbook_11.12_with_attachments.pdf

01:38:36
Hi Stephanie, no question is ever silly. You will need to specify your stakeholder status when submitting an application. Most NCs limit their candidates to running for no more than one board seat. However, there are a few that do allow it. You can see Article X, Section 5 in your NC's bylaws here: https://lacity.quickbase.com/db/bn9g6crpq?a=q&qid=5

01:40:20
No worries! You will receive this recording along with other useful resources in your packet. Thanks for attending and feel better.
Alana Garrop
01:40:58
I notice that there are several "areas" (i.e., Area 1, Area 2, etc.). Do you need to live, own property, or work in the specific area to run for that area?
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
01:43:09
Hi Alana, that is usually the case, however you will need to view your NC's bylaws because board seat requirements vary between NCs.
Kathleen Barth (she/her)
01:43:45
My local council has 3 seats per area— 1 business, 1 community based org., and 1 resident.
Alana Garrop
01:48:22
Thank you, Renee and Kathleen!

01:49:01
You're welcome Alana!

01:53:28
Are we able to change the type of seat we’re running for after the deadline if the requirements are the same and not enough people are running for the open seats.
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
01:55:19
Hi Jennifer, unfortunately, a candidate is unable to change their board seat after the candidate filing deadline has passed.

Here is a sample script for talking about how to Vote By Mail:
Ann-Marie Holman
02:21:36
This election is entirely Vote-By-Mail. Ballots are postage-paid, but only available by request. Request yours by (Request Deadline) at https://clerk.lacity.org/elections/neighborhood-council-elections/vote-by-mail-application. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by (Election Day) or returned in a local dropbox. Look up dropbox locations at https://Clerk.LAcity.org/ElectionDayInfo.

I believe Ken is saying the City Clerk NC Elections website is not as user-friendly for novices as he would like
Brad Altfest
02:24:34
Do I understand correctly that a constituent needs to download and print the application for the ballot? I.E. there's no link to directly sign up online for vote by mail?
Glenn Bailey
02:24:40
I did provide Ken the exact link to the drop menu for the candidate listings by NC
Renee McDade, CC Election - NC Team
02:26:20
Hi Brad, constituents can also use our online VBM Portal to submit an application here: https://clerkappsele.lacity.org/NCElection/voter/login
