Hi, Ted. I’m told that with the government $600 a week payments, there isn’t a need for much rental assistance. Has this been accurate?
Leslie Brown
15:43
Tod, I do not believe that is correct, because people are facing 1-5 months’ in arrears of their rent, and undocumented folks don’t get any unemployment. There are 1000’s of ppl in SnoCo …
Kathy Fleming
16:20
There's lots of requests for rental assistance. Not everyone received that $600
Leslie Brown
16:49
Rent assistance is the #1 need for people requesting mutual aid in SnoCo.
Maureen Howard
16:51
Ted - does Commerce have an expectation for how long it will take from an application to payment to the landlord?
Michele, She/Her, Housing Alliance
16:51
Also, the $600 is over. Not happening anymore and many people are struggling to pay rent now.
Mindy Woods
18:00
Snohomish County rental assistance requests are greater than the $ available, and evictions filings are already filling up the courts waiting for the moratorium to end.
curt gray
18:10
Tedd...sent you a private chat question
Karen Studders
19:02
@Tod - The Census Data showed $200,000 in unpaid July rent WHILE receiving the $600 additional unemployment - which ceased two weeks ago- so it is NOT accurate. This data was provided is publicly available and provided to us in several reports from DoC and WLIHA.
Diane Vincent
19:34
LOTS of documented folks also do not qualify for unemployment; I haven't received ANY $ from UI and struggling to survive, pay the rent
Tod Gunther
21:18
Thank you, everyone. I’m a City Councilor and we are looking at how best to distribute COVID Relief funds. This is helpful.

I'm sorry but not everyone lives in Seattle

Tammy, I feel the biggest gap here in SnoCo is comprehensive case management. WE have orgs advocating but its piecemeal. Any suggestions to build on this would be appreciated. I’m at snohomishimmigrationadvocacy@gmail.com

It is not unknown that housing for the homeless eliminate sooo many other social issues and actually SAVES money that is spent in the background handling homelessness in the manner we do now

Everyone should be aware that the sheriff in SnoCo is persecuting the homeless in the name of cracking down on crime. It’s going to be a fight and I hope you’ll all pay close attention to what going on, we need advocate support.

City of Lynnwood (also in Snohomish Co) is also sweeping encampments and ignoring CDC guidelines during a deadly pandemic. Lots of police and arrests but no support for sheltering people experiencing homelessness. Unaware of public actions to hold officials accountable.

Shannel, thank you. We have community members from several different tribes. A very few have accessed our county housing/support services. How do I steer them toward tribal resources and how, as a white person, make contact with tribal leadership as a source of assistance for their members? I know"we" don't have tribal trust, but I'm open to any suggestions.
