There's varying perspectives on how to identify the level of impact an individual in the ASD experience. Do you still teach to "high and low functioning," or would you encourage the use of levels (1-3) of ASD according to the DSM-V?
Joslynn Bigelow, OR
43:44
*on the ASD
Shawn Danhouser - Midwest & IL
46:44
I think since she just used higher and lower in her response it must be acceptable.
Joslynn Bigelow, OR
48:04
thanks Shawn. we've moved beyond "functionality" in my field and try to avoid generalizing. question answered
Sandy Castillo-Cal South

30 years ago we were told that the players had to look at us in the eyes. The trauma we caused our poor players. Now we know better
Nancy Llanos
01:11:13
As part of our online registration for our TOPSoccer program one of the questions for the parents is to list what motivates their child so we can pass that info on to the child's buddy.

01:38:05
Practically how do you use visual schedules on the field? Do the buddy hold the schedule?
Lauren Ewald
01:43:44
Is there a specific place to find these steps to create visual schedules? I know at schools they use board maker- but I’m curious to know if there is someone who could make these for TOPSOCCER specifically?
Wendy Greenberg CA
01:45:05
It a great thing to have the volunteers make. you/they can find pics on the internet.
Ericksen Gomez-Villeda - Ca.
01:45:24
we have rattle balls
Shawn Danhouser - Midwest & IL
01:45:28
Might be a good idea to commission an artist to develop TOPSoccer specific images that we could all access. Just a thought
Dave Robinson - Florida
01:45:28
great question Lauren you are reading my mind! I'll convene with the committee and see what we can do.
Ed DeMulder - VT
01:45:56
If you know of any Adaptive PE Teachers in a local school, ask them to help you with a typical Training session
Dave Robinson - Florida
01:46:03
if anyone might know of a resource (person or program) that might help use develop something to use throughout USYS let us know.
Wendy Greenberg CA
01:46:06
How many players do most programs typically have on the field? Do you cap out your sign ups?
Anthony Warlick
01:46:09
pictures with ideas would be so great for those of us who are starting up!
Lauren Ewald
01:47:44
Dave-I know that we use Board Maker in the schools for our students who need visual schedules. It may be worth looking into for USYS.
Joslynn Bigelow
01:47:56
picture software such as boardmaker or symbolstix are great tools for developing visual displays for on field use
Joslynn Bigelow
01:48:32
symbolstix has more modern soccer related images. requires purchasing the license to access
Shawn Danhouser - Midwest & IL
01:50:13
Great suggestion Joslynn! I'm going to check it out
Ed DeMulder - VT
01:51:28
Response to Wendy on typical program size. In the EAST Region, we have an average of 26 players per program
kim fortney
01:52:00
If USYS could give us access to a boardmaker type program that would be great. I used to have it when my son was younger but don't now. It was several hundred dollars but so easy to use. Any program similar would be very useful.
Dave Robinson - Florida
01:52:02
and Ed, are all 26 of those on the same field or split up?
Christina Lewis Nebraska
01:52:03
Wait? Am i the only coach who wants to draw their own ? Lol
Ed DeMulder - VT
01:52:04
National Average in 2019 was just about the same
Joslynn Bigelow
01:53:26
my day job program shares one symbol stix account (all use same email and password)
Ed DeMulder - VT
01:54:46
It depends on the program, Programs usually try to differentiate skill levels in order to challenge our players to the correct level
Shawn Danhouser - Midwest & IL
01:58:04
USABA just released some coaching videos for blind soccer athletes
Ericksen Gomez-Villeda - Ca.

We sometimes start our youngest players (like the 4-5 year olds). With gallon plastic milk jugs -they make lots of noise when you dribble, move slowly and then they can jump on them and flatten at the end. Of course move to balls ...
