“Intimacy is just one sentence away” - Dan Wile
When partners in an intimate relationship are caught in an attack-defend cycle, how do we help them step out of the inner dialogue of criticism, judgment, or contempt and soften towards their partner? In this webinar, we will look at specific interventions from the Gottman Method couples therapy and Dan Wile’s Collaborative couples therapy that address ways to step in and redirect conflict conversations away from criticism and impasses and towards greater empathy and understanding.
This webinar is for mental health professionals who want a clinical approach to interventions when working with couples in distress. Our focus in this course will be on skill-building and enhancing your understanding of Gottman Method techniques that prove successful with clients who bring unique challenges to therapy.
At the completion of this training, you will know how to:
-Intervene in an attack-defend impasse in couples therapy with at least two different methods of intervention.
-Apply specific Gottman Method interventions to help couples become more effective at redirecting difficult moments
-Help a couple increase self-awareness of their own ego states.
-Help partners turn towards each other and confide rather than criticize each other.
A recording of this will be available 3-5 business days after the event.
