FESPA Coffee Break: What are the benefits of Software automation and what new skills are required?
Description
How automating repetitive tasks and building workflows will impress customers, increase throughput, and reduce wastage!
In this Coffee Break, Graeme Richardson-Locke FESPA’s Technical Support Manager is joined by Malcolm McKenzie, Technical Director at Colour Engine, and Andrew Bailes-Collins, Senior Product Manager at Enfocus. In this Coffee Break our goal is to provide direction on how to get started with automating your commonly repeated tasks allowing you to focus on other priorities in building your business.
Whether you already have online ordering that needs connecting to production or just want to automate a much larger volume of short run jobs to increase efficiency and reduce waste we’ll get you on track. The beauty of well implemented automation is it gives customer clear choices and prevents a raft of misunderstandings and errors that lead to reprints or disappointment.

He has worked for a number of vendors in the printing and publishing sector, including Scangraphic, Apple, and DuPont/Crosfield. He has been Prepress Manager for several high-quality printing companies in London, managing the change from conventional production techniques to digital. An early adopter of computer-to-plate and PDF workflow, Andrew then worked at OneVision Software for ten years. Initially based in the UK, before rising through the company to become Head of Product Management Europe at their head office near Munich in Germany. Andrew joined Enfocus and moved to Belgium in 2011 and is the Senior Product Manager responsible for the PitStop family of products since 2013. Malcolm Mackenzie (Technical Director @Colour Engine Ltd) Malcolm studied first design and then photography at Bournemouth College. Whilst photography was still a passion, Malcolm built a business in manufacturing furniture and giftware, supplying John Lewis, Liberty and many specialist shops. The route back to the graphic arts started with web design in the 90’s and digital capture colour issues. Since 2005 Malcolm has been working with designers and printers teaching Colour Management and PDF workflows. In 2010 he joined with Mark Anderton to start Colour Engine focused on helping clients to improve efficiency of colour, costs and workflow. Malcolm has worked with many customers to help implement Enfocus Switch and Pitstop workflows and loves the challenges that entails.
