On December 16th, the WPI will host a conversation between our archivist, Samantha Rowe, and the project manager for the Tom Wesselmann Catalogue Raisonné, Huffa Frobes-Cross. Working between the Tom Wesselmann Papers and the artist’s work, Huffa and Samantha will discuss how archival research intersects with and supports the development of this catalogué raisonne project. The work of the archivist and the catalogue researcher can diverge completely or prove integral to the other’s discoveries, such as how a letter of correspondence can lend itself as a vital resource to resolve a gap in provenance or examining photographs which reveals an artist's technique or process. The sampling will exhibit the unique advantage of having both ends of the research process at our fingertips.
This webinar provides an exclusive look into the Tom Wesselmann Papers sourced from the artist's archives and accompanies an exciting advancement to the Tom Wesselmann Digital Corpus: the research team is adding all of Wesselmann’s monographs as well as dozens of artworks and exhibitions. The webinar also celebrates the inaugural launch of the WPI's Oral History Recordings, one of which features Jeffrey Sturges, Estate Manager of the Tom Wesselmann Estate.
