Renate Schnabel (Speaker)
Professor of internal medicine and cardiology, interventional cardiologist and consultant in cardiology @Department of Cardiology, University Heart & Vascular Center Hamburg
Renate B. Schnabel, MD, MSc is professor of internal medicine and cardiology, interventional cardiologist and consultant in cardiology at University Heart and Vascular Center Hamburg, Germany. She graduated from medical school from Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Germany in 2002. After a research fellowship at the Framingham Heart Study, Boston University she moved to Hamburg. She works with clinical and population cohorts and leads national and EU-funded international consortia. She is PI of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research. Her research interest is in digital cardiology, atrial fibrillation and heart failure, and omics for cardiovascular risk assessment. Very active within professional organizations, she is member on councils of the European Society of Cardiology, American Heart Association and the German Cardiac Society.
George Ntaios (Speaker)
Associate Professor @Department of Internal Medicine, University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece; Hellenic Stroke Organization
George Ntaios serves as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Thessaly and practices Medicine at the Department of Medicine at the Larissa University Hospital in central Greece. After obtaining his Master and PhD degrees at the Aristotles University of Thessaloniki, he was stroke-trained during a stroke fellowship at the CHUV in Lausanne and during the European Master in Stroke Medicine in Danube University in Austria. He served as General Secretary of the Hellenic Stroke Organization between 2015-2021, and currently is honored to serve as its President. He was the leading Editor of the Stroke Textbook of the Hellenic Stroke Organization. He co-authored several Guideline documents and position papers published by various scientific bodies like the European Stroke Organization (ESO), the European Society of Cardiology, the Hellenic Stroke Organization, the Hellenic Society of Cardiology, and the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society.
Hooman Kamel (Speaker)
Vice Chair for Research and Chief of Neurocritical Care @Department of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine
Dr. Kamel is the Vice Chair for Research and Chief of Neurocritical Care in the Department of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is also the Director of the Clinical and Translational Neuroscience Unit in the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute and the Department of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. His research focuses on the relationship between cardiac disease and stroke. He has published several studies showing that atrial cardiopathy may be a previously unrecognized risk factor for stroke. He is a principal investigator and protocol lead for the NIH-funded ARCADIA trial, which is testing antithrombotic strategies in patients with stroke and atrial cardiopathy. He is also a principal investigator of the NIH-funded ASPIRE trial, which is testing antithrombotic strategies in patients with atrial fibrillation and intracerebral hemorrhage. He has published over 300 scientific publications, including in leading journals such as NEJM and JAMA.
