Maryna Saprykina, CSR Ukraine delivers the Fiona Wain Oration 2022
The Role of Business in a Time of Conflict

This year's unique Fiona Wain Oration 2022, the ninth, goes to the epicentre of the conflict in Ukraine to hear first hand from Maryna Saprykina, the Head of the Board and CEO of the Centre for CSR Development Ukraine (CSR Ukraine).

CSR Ukraine, part of the global network partnership of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, has been vocal and active in uniting socially responsible business across Ukraine as an important step to victory in that country.

There are already stories of many businesses drawing from their savings to support Ukrainian troops on the frontline, even as most business owners are mostly resigned to the threat their country faces, to the extent that there's even a sense of business as usual.

At the same time, one of the key narratives business is facing is that Ukraine is a failure - a chaotic, lawless, dysfunctional place - so damaging the economy is a big part of any strategy. The knock-on effect of that is withdrawal of Western investment, potentially making Ukraine toxic and high risk.

- What happens when your country faces invasion, and you just want to get on with running your business?
- What role should business play in supporting a country during an armed conflict?
- Are there any opportunities to be found in these difficult times?

Hear from Maryna live from the Ukraine as she addresses these and many other challenging questions around the role of business in a time of conflict.
