Sidewall cooling concepts – determining when intense copper cooling is needed
A variety of methods exist for cooling the hearth, sidewalls or roof a furnace. Different methods may be used in different regions of a furnace. The choice of method depends on the intensity of cooling required, cost, process, safety and other practical factors and client preferences. Pyromet uses one or more of the following methods in a furnace design:
• Natural air convection
• Forced air convection
• Film cooling using water
• Spray cooling using water
• Water tube cooling on the steel shell (including serpentine cooling)
• Finger coolers – Pyromet’s proprietary SAFECOOL ® coolers
• Plate coolers
• Bateman’s CFM ( composite furnace module) coolers
• Pyromet’s proprietary MAXICOOL® coolers including mini MAXICOOL® coolers
This presentation discusses the conditions under which it is appropriate to use water-cooled copper on a furnace.
