Strengthening Higher Education in New York through Alternative Pathways

In January, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a plan to increase student success in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, including by streamlining the application, transfer, and financial aid processes; adding adult learning opportunities; funding minority-serving institutions; and closing equity gaps in retention, completion, and job placement. Many other institutions and systems across the country are also recognizing that there is work to do in these areas, and some are partnering with non-institutional providers to develop new admissions pathways and affordable and flexible course options for learners.

This webinar will discuss the current landscape of higher education in New York and how the state can realize Hochul’s vision by creating alternative pathways for learners. It will feature institutional leaders from across the state as well as experts from StraighterLine, an online learning provider that works with institutions and systems to develop innovative pathways. The speakers will demonstrate how adding more options for learners can be a win-win for learners and institutions and promote equity in higher education.
