Join us virtually for an insightful interview and live performance with Philip Sheegog and Jonathan Miron, of the innovative music duo ARKAI. Drawing their name from the Greek ἀρχαί meaning “source of action”, ARKAI channels the diversity of the world through genre-bending music and sonic exploration. Inspired by a myriad of artistic palettes, ARKAI envisions their music as a vehicle for cultural ambassadorship and understanding through the creative blending of different traditions. The talented duo has previously performed at The Met Breuer, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall’s Studio 57, The Peace Studio, and the 92nd Street Y, among others. ARKAI is a recipient of a Chamber Music America Ensemble Forward Grant, made possible with generous support from the New York Community Trust.
Moderated by MOCA’s Associate Director of Institutional Relations Melissa Wansin Wong, the conversation will explore some of the inspiration and stories behind Philip and Jonathan’s impressive compositions as well as their advice for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the arts. To intersperse the conversation, the duo will play four pieces, which include original compositions and interpretations of famous tunes from a various cultures - Aurora, Shenandoah, Fønix, and a piece written in response to COVID-19 Pandemic. Please join us for this special music event!
The event will NOT be hosted on ZOOM as the performance will be live streamed directly on MOCA's YouTube Channel. The YouTube Live link will be provided in the registration email.
