Reimagining skills for the New World of Work
The emerging contours of the new world of work in the Fourth Industrial Revolution are rapidly becoming a lived reality for millions of workers and companies around the world. India has one of the largest workforces in the world: With nearly 500 million people of working age, the domestic labor market is second only to China's and far bigger than those of the United States and the EU.

India also has a much younger population, with an average age of 26.8 years. Tens of millions of students graduate from colleges across the country every year, entering the workforce. But the South Asian nation lags behind many of its peers when it comes to imparting skills needed for youth to become employable.

The country is facing an acute skill deficit, needs of the industries are evolving with each passing day thereby, increasing the concerns over employability. We have a big challenge of Growing skills instability: Given the wave of new technologies and trends disrupting business models, pandemic, the changing division of labor between workers and machines transforming current job profiles, the skills required to perform most jobs will have shifted demand of existing skills today, but also between today’s skills base and future skills requirements. Add to that the change in core construct for what we defined as a job with constructs as Hybrid, Remote, Gig etc.

Industry-academia partnerships have been bridging this skills gap and disparity by recruiting freshers from college and university campuses. This partnership of age and its construct have lived its life. Has the time come to reinvent the rules of game or change the game altogether?
