Join us for Community Conversations, a digital webinar series exploring critical issues related to mass incarceration, prison conditions, and opportunities for decarceration in North Carolina. As part of the fifth and final Vigil for Freedom and Racial Justice, these conversations aim to educate, inspire, and empower participants to take action. Through these discussions, we amplify the voices of impacted individuals, share actionable solutions, and envision a more equitable future. December 11: Clemency and Compassionate Release - Explore the power of clemency and compassionate release in providing second chances and addressing mass incarceration in North Carolina. This discussion will cover current clemency processes, barriers to compassionate release, and ways advocates can work together to push for systemic changes. December 18: Second Chances In the Wake of Disaster. - This session will shine a spotlight on the state of prison conditions and food access in Western North Carolina, a region still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. We will explore the unique challenges facing justice impacted people in the area, as well as the systemic barriers exacerbated by the hurricane’s impact. January 8: Looking Ahead for Decarceration in North Carolina - What does the future of decarceration look like in North Carolina? Join us as we outline the next steps for reducing incarceration rates and addressing racial disparities in the justice system. This session will focus on innovative strategies and legislative opportunities as we head into a new political landscape within the state and the nation.
