Recognized as an innovative and dynamic leader for building greater community engagement and creating programs of national and international impact, Bedford served as director of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University for four years prior to joining the BMA and was appointed Commissioner for the US Pavilion for the 2017 Venice Biennale, the world's most prestigious contemporary art fair, which presented an exhibition of new work by American artist Mark Bradford. Lisa Sasaki (Director @Smithsonian American Women's History Museum, Smithsonian Institution) Lisa Sasaki is currently the interim director of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum. Prior to this appointment, she was the director of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, which brings the Asian Pacific American stories to communities through innovative museum experiences. Sasaki has worked in the museum field for 25 years for organizations like the Oakland Museum of California and the Japanese American National Museum. She also served as President of the Western Museums Association’s Board of Directors and as a member of AAM’s Facing Change working group and the Advisory Council for the Council of Jewish American Museums. Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham (Executive Director @Museum Hue) Stephanie Johnson-Cunningham works to paint a larger portrait of the museum sector and challenge racial inequities in the field. Her advocacy aligns with Museum Hue, an organization she co-founded and serves as Creative Director, supporting Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color. As a United Nations Human Rights fellow, Stephanie applies the UN’s ratification of cultural rights to her work and calls for greater recognition and representation in the arts industry. She also received the Americans for the Arts 2019 American Express Emerging Leader Award for her work. As the United States reckons with a legacy of structural racism, oppression, and discriminatory policies and practices; Stephanie centers cultural equity as an essential part of achieving social justice. Erika Sanger (Executive Director @Museum Association of New York) Sanger has gained her extensive arts experience through positions held at renowned institutions including the International Center of Photography, the Jewish Museum, the New-York Historical Society, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Asheville Art Museum in Asheville, NC. She served as Director of Development at Penland School of Crafts in Western North Carolina, where she was actively engaged in the region’s artists’ community, and participated in the design and implementation of campaigns for capital and endowment funds. She has also developed program assessments with Harvard University’s Project Zero, the NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching, and with the education department at the University at Albany. Programs produced under her direction have received funding from major organizations, including the Institute for Museum and Library Services and the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities.
