Elbow Stiffness & Hip and Knee Pain
The Northpark Private Hospital invites General Practitioners to attend this live, online and interactive meeting presented by Dr Shailendra Dass and Dr Elie Khoury and hosted by Charmayne Thompson.

Activity ID 214378.

This update has been developed to assist GPs in best managing patients that present to them with pain and/or stiffness in the major limb joints of the elbows, knees and hips.

Most people will at some point experience pain associated with these joints and in many cases will visit their local GP to address these issues. Wear and tear, injury, and simple genetic predisposition can all contribute to knee or hip pain. The GP, being the first point of contact will need to have a good understanding of the possible causes of pain or stiffness, as well as knowledge of what a good treatment plan entails.

Learning Outcomes:

Through this activity, GP's will be able to:

1. Discuss the many different causes of elbow stiffness and the investigations and workup that needs to take place in order to find the cause;
2. Identifying what consists of an effective treatment plan based on the diagnosis associated with the patient’s elbow stiffness. This includes knowing when a specialist Orthopaedic opinion is required and what surgical options may need to be considered;
3. Identify the most common causes of hip and knee pain and the pathogenesis of each of these conditions;
4. Implement with confidence effective treatment plans for each of the more common causes of hip and knee pain and knowing when to refer to refer a patient for an Orthopaedic opinion as part of these treatment plans.
