Topic
Powering Florida Cities and Counties with Solar: Expanding Access to Savings, Local Jobs, and Economic Investment
Description
Join Generation180 and Solar United Neighbors to learn about proposed legislation that would enable municipalities in Florida to affordably scale up solar, which would stimulate the local economy, create jobs, and generate utility bill savings.
Florida's legislature has an opportunity to empower municipalities, schools, and nonprofits to use Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to go solar with no upfront costs. This financing arrangement is enabled in 28 states, but not yet in Florida.
Hear from the City of Orlando about how this policy would create economic benefits and advance the city towards its goal of 100% clean energy. Learn how municipalities in Georgia used solar PPAs to capitalize on the cost savings and enhance resilience. Join us to find out how you can help bring these benefits to Florida.
Panelists:
- Chris Castro, Director of Sustainability and Resilience, City of Orlando, FL
- Shelby Buso, Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Atlanta, GA
- Robert Ryals, Director of Facilities Management, Macon-Bibb County, GA
