Making the TCA Work for the UK
When Boris Johnson signed the UK-EU trade deal last December, the question was whether it would respect UK sovereignty. The focus for many in parliament and the country switched to the advice of the 'Star Chamber', the lawyers convened by the European Research Group of MPs and chaired by Sir Bill Cash MP.

Politeia's zoom event on Thursday 20th May, 'Making the TCA Work for the UK' will consider the implications of that advice. Speaking will be the authors of a version of that advice specially prepared for publication* by four of the lawyers involved. They will consider such questions as:

How far does the TCA respect UK sovereignty?
What legal framework was agreed to resolve differences over level playing field laws and state aid?
Does the TCA facilitate the UK's aim to restore its fishing rights?
How can the principles of the TCA help to resolve the difficult legacy of the Northern Irish Protocol?

Speaking will be:
Martin Howe QC, 8 New Square & Chairman, Lawyers for Britain

Barnabas Reynolds, Global Head of the Financial Services Industry Group, Shearman & Sterling

Professor David Collins, Professor of International Economic Law, City, Univeristy of London

James Webber, Partner, Shearman & Sterling

Dr Sheila Lawlor, Research Director, Politeia

Edite Ligere, Director of Politeia will chair the event

May 20, 2021 12:30 PM in London
