David Smith, MEng, PhD
Vice President, Technical Operations @Ori Biotech North America, Inc.
David has over 10 years’ experience in CGT manufacturing and currently is the VP of Technical Operations for Ori Biotech, an innovator in CGT manufacturing that’s developed a flexible manufacturing platform to automate, standardize and close processing. Previously David led the Research and Development for Minaris (formerly HCATS), a leading contract manufacturing organization, where he managed process development, analytical development and technology adoption. Prior to join Minaris in 2015, David completed his PhD at Loughborough University a Masters in Biochemical Engineering based at University of Bath, along with extensive periods at UNSW, Australia and DSM, Netherlands. This interdisciplinary background allows David to enhance the robustness and reproducibility of processes whilst analyzing costs and sustainability to supplement Ori Biotechs’ drive to ensure access and deliverability of cell and gene therapies to all.
Gary Leonard
Director, Group Operations @SteriPack Contract Manufacturing
Based out of SteriPack Groups Irish Headquarters, Gary Leonard has worked for StericPack Group for 15 years in various engineering and operational based roles. He is currently the Group Operations Director focused on the delivery of strategic Operational and Engineering based projects across the group of companies, including digital transformation projects. In his previous positions he was the Group Technical Director and also the Site Operations Director for the USA facility. He has an MSc in Polymer Technology, and a Lean 6 sigma black belt.
Daniel R. Matlis
President @Axendia, Inc.
Daniel Founder and President of Axendia, an analyst firm providing trusted advice to Life-Science Executives on Business, Technology and Regulatory issues. Dan has almost three decades of industry experience spanning the Health-Science value chain. He has been an active member in FDA’s Case for Quality Initiative since 2014 and has presented Axendia’s research findings to industry executives and the FDA officials. He is a frequent lecturer at Industry events and has published numerous research reports and articles on key issues facing the Life-Sciences and Healthcare industries. Dan began his career at Johnson & Johnson, where he provided leadership in the areas of technology, regulatory compliance and business. Before founding Axendia, Dan was a Partner, VP and General Manager at a leading Life-Science consultancy firm. Dan holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University (now NYU School of Engineering) & a MS in Management from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
