Pam Fredman

Moderator and speaker: Pam Fredman served as Rector of the University of Gothenburg from 2006 until 2017. She is a Professor of Neurochemistry and has held several leading positions within the University, for example as Dean of the faculty of medicine at the University of Gothenburg – the Sahlgrenska Academy. Pam Fredman was the head of the University and its principal representative. Over the years, she has been active in a large number of scientific and scholarly contexts. Pam Fredman has for example been Chair of the European Society of Neurochemistry and she is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA. Since 2016, Pam Fredmam is the President of the International Association of Universities.
Olusola Oyewole
Secretary General @Association of African Universities (AAU)
Speaker: Professor Olusola Oyewole is the Secretary General Association of African Universities (AAU) and the Immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He has served as a Senior Expert (Quality Assurance, Mobility and Scholarships) at the Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology of the African Union Commission in Ethiopia, Addis-Ababa, from 2009 to 2010.
Ted Mitchell
President @American Council of Education (ACE)
Ted Mitchell is the president of the American Council on Education, the coordinating body for higher education institutions in the United States. ACE’s work encompasses policy advocacy; program development; and research focusing on equity, access, and student achievement. Mitchell’s leadership of ACE and of the nation’s higher education sector is informed by a lifetime of work in higher education as a professor, dean, college president, trustee, and most recently as U.S. Under Secretary of Education in the Obama administration.
Renée Barata Zicman
Executive Director @Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI)
Renée Zicman is Executive-Director of the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI) and a former Professor in the School of Social Sciences at Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo PUC-SP (1980-2017). She is the author of books and articles on the internationalisation of higher education and has been a member of the Academic Committee of the Latin American Memorial Foundation. She has been named Chevalier (Knight, 2020) of the Order of the Légion d’Honneur, the highest French decoration, and Officier (Officer, 2012) and Chevalier (Knight, 2002) of the French Order of the Palmes Académiques. She has served as Director for International Affairs at PUC-SP (1994-2012) and Vice-President of the Franco-Brazilian Center of Technical and Scientific Documentation (2010-2015). In addition, she has taken part in various programmes and projects focusing on the internationalisation of higher education and the Brazilian national internationalisation strategy.
Marcello Scalisi
Director @Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED)
Speaker: Marcello Scalisi has been the director of the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) since 2008. He gained extensive experience in Sicily in the sustainable tourism sector, managing and monitoring EU projects for local tourism development and providing vocational training for dozens of companies and thousands of workers. Scalisi started working at UNIMED in 1998 as project manager and moved gradually to the coordination of UNIMED’s European, international and national funded initiatives and projects. Since he became director of UNIMED, there has been a significant increase of the number of associated universities to the network, funded projects, employees, and collaborators. UNIMED is now a permanent stakeholder of the European Commission.
