This webinar provides an overview of the current practices in bariatric surgery, with guidance to general practitioners when managing patients with high BMI. GPs will also receive a review of the treatments available for athletes and young people with hip pain.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Utilise specialist information when assessing hip pain in young adults and athletes;
2. Discuss current practice in bariatric surgery with their patients;
3. Access appropriate diagnostic services to assist in the diagnosis and management of their patients with degenerative spine disease;
4. Identify effective referral pathways.

He has worked in various capacities across Victoria, including Deputy Director of Orthopaedics at the Alfred Hospital. Arshad is a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) and International Affiliate American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Mr Barmare specialises in joint replacement, trauma, sports injuries, and all facets of orthopaedics and the musculoskeletal system. Arshad has subspecialty interests in adult reconstruction and sport and trauma related injuries. He is an AOA Trainee Supervisor, has a teaching role at the University of Melbourne, is an AMC assessor and an examiner at the University of Melbourne MD program. A pioneer in his field, Arshad treats patients with joint pain utilising the most advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques. Mr Ali Humadi (Spinal and Trauma Orthopaedic Surgeon @John Fawkner Private) Mr Ali Humadi is a fully trained surgeon in orthopaedic trauma and joint replacement. Ali then undertook dedicated advanced post-Fellowship training in Spinal Surgery in major spine centres throughout the world: Mr Humadi specialises in the management of spinal conditions including complex conditions such as: • Scoliosis • Kyphosis • Spondylolisthesis • Degenerative disease • Spinal trauma • Tumours. • Spine Fellowship at Washington University, St Louis, Missouri, USA • Spine Fellowship at Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia • Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship, Freiburg Uniklinikum Hospital, Freiburg, Germany. He is an Associate Clinical Lecturer, Discipline of Orthopaedics and Trauma at Monash and Melbourne University. He completed a Master's Degree in Orthopaedic Surgery at Adelaide University and postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Melbourne before undertaking the Neuro-Orthopaedic Spinal Fellowship at the Austin Hospital. Mr Jacob Vanyai (General Surgeon @John Fawkner Private Hospital) Mr Jacob Vanyai is a general surgeon with a special interest in upper gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. He ensures all his patients receive the best possible care by utilising minimally invasive surgical techniques and modern enhanced recovery protocols. Mr Vanyai trained in general surgery at Monash Health and Alfred Health. Admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013, Mr Vanyai gained additional experience in general surgery at Royal Darwin Hospital and in upper GI surgery at John Hunter Hospital and Western Health. He is accredited to perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Mr Vanyai is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Gastro Oesophageal Surgery Association and the Australia and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association. He remains an active member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as an instructor in surgical and critical care skills.
