Is Makeup Bad for You? Choosing Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Products
Many are familiar with the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) popular Skin Deep database and rely on it to vet personal care products for safety. The Anticancer Lifestyle Program is thrilled to host Carla Burns, Senior Director of Cosmetic Science at the EWG.

The average American adult uses between 6 to 12 cosmetics and personal care products daily—and the typical teenager uses many more. As we lather on soaps, shampoos, lotions, deodorants, and more, we expose ourselves to hundreds of unique chemicals each day.

Many of these chemicals have never been tested for safety, and some that have been assessed are linked to serious health impacts, including birth defects and cancer.

Due to woefully inadequate regulations in the U.S. that haven’t been updated since 1938, cosmetics companies can use almost any ingredients without regard to safety. Whereas the EU has banned or restricted more than 1,400 ingredients in personal care products, the US has banned or restricted less than a dozen.

In this webinar, you will learn about:

- Common ingredients found in cosmetics and personal care products that are linked to cancer and other health concerns

- Current scientific understanding of the toxicity of these ingredients and our levels of exposure

- Steps you can take to reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals and lower your body burden

- Tips and resources for finding safer products

This webinar will take place on Tuesday, October 26th at 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST.

Oct 26, 2021 11:00 AM in Pacific Time (US and Canada)
