He received his training in implant surgery in the Brånemark Clinic, Gothenburg, where he worked part-time from 1989 to 2002. His PhD thesis “On the bone tissue responses to titanium implants” was defended in 1991. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in “Clinical and experimental oral implantology” at the Dept of Biomaterials, University of Gothenburg in 2000. Since 2001 he performs implant surgery in a private practice in Sweden, UK and in Clinica Feltre, Italy. Dr Sennerby is presently part-time professor at the Dept of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has published extensively on dental implants, biomaterials and bone healing. Dr Sennerby was co-founder of and co-editor-in-chief for Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research 2000-2020.
