Embodied Carbon and Interior Building Products - Why Taking the Long View Matters
A 2019 study conducted by the University of Washington and the Carbon Leadership Forum analyzed the carbon impacts of tenant improvements - those being flooring, furnishing, fixtures, and other building products likely to be refurbished over the full lifecycle of a commercial building. Using a medium estimate of mass and carbon equivalents for tenant improvements in these categories, the results indicated that while the carbon impact of building products was only 16% of the overall at initial construction, their impact could grow to 36% or more over a 45 year period.

As the building industry evolves to a Scope 3 assessment of carbon impact, are Building Products a prime target for carbon mitigation and the attainment of ESG goals?

Please join this discussion with panelists from Interface, Humanscale, and DPR Construction to learn how leaders in the Building Products industry are addressing the measurement and reduction of carbon and how a major Green Builder is applying that data to achievement of the building owner's goals.
