A native of Michigan, home to more than 250 hardwood businesses, she began her career working for Governor John Engler in 1991 as a policy advisor in various issue areas, including natural resources. She then spent eight years with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in several roles where she promoted small and large businesses in the state, and successfully negotiated regulatory disputes. In 2004, she moved to the 11,000-member National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Board Secretary, managing a board of more than 200 top U.S. business executives and serving as the point person to the 250 member Council of Manufacturing Associations. Pat Rita (Principal, Orion Advocates - Government Affairs Consultant to the Hardwood Federation @Orion Advocates) Orion Advocates was founded in 2008 by Patrick Rita, who brings over 25 years of experience with public policy on a wide range of issues. Pat started his career working on Capitol Hill, including positions with former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey and for the U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Pat has an accomplished track record of advocating at the state level before state legislatures and state executive branch officials. Before founding Orion Advocates, Pat headed the American Forest & Paper Association’s government affairs program, where he was responsible for formulating and executing lobbying campaigns at the international, federal, state and local levels of government. From two tours of duty working government affairs in different trade associations to his Hill experience to state and local lobbying campaigns, he has seen & experienced government affairs—what works & what doesn’t—at every level and from virtually every angle.
