hosted by Alicia Rowell, Vice President, AIM at Melanoma Foundation

A conversation with Sancy Leachman, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor of Dermatology, School of Medicine, Cancer Biology Graduate Program,
School of Medicine, OHSU

As warmer weather approaches and UV exposure increases, organizations like AIM at Melanoma increase reminders to the general public about sun-safe behaviors such as using sunscreen, wearing a hat, and seeking shade.

These recommendations are simple and logical: Protect your skin from the sun by putting a barrier between the two. But the subject of sunscreen has become confusing—or worse—for many people due to incomplete and mixed messages from government, media, and interest groups.

In this webinar, we will update you on the state of sunscreen in the U.S. and try to allay that confusion.

During this webinar Dr. Leachman will also discuss:

What is UV radiation and how is it harmful?
Tanning, burning, and DNA damage
Updates on sunscreen ingredients: Why is sunscreen always in the news?
How sunscreen works and evidence of its effectiveness
Why clothing should be considered the cornerstone of UV protection
