As warmer weather approaches and UV exposure increases, organizations like AIM at Melanoma increase reminders to the general public about sun-safe behaviors such as using sunscreen, wearing a hat, and seeking shade.

These recommendations are simple and logical: Protect your skin from the sun by putting a barrier between the two. But the subject of sunscreen has become confusing—or worse—for many people due to incomplete and mixed messages from government, media, and interest groups.
