In the summer of 2020, the hashtag #SaveTheChildren/#SaveOurChildren used global concern over human trafficking to further QAnon conspiracy and misinformation.

When confronted with such a widespread and urgent issue, how do we decipher fact from fiction? What can we do to combat global human trafficking?

Heather Fischer is a senior advisor for human trafficking in the Philanthropy sector, who most recently served as the first-ever White House special advisor for human trafficking. She joins us to discuss the extent of the problem, what it looks like, and how we can help end trafficking around the world.

During her detail assignment from the US Department of Justice to the White House, she served as the human trafficking coordinator for the Executive Office of the President components, the federal interagency, and the President's Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons to prevent and address all forms of human trafficking. Prior to her role at the White House, Fischer served as special advisor to the Ambassador-at-Large in the Office of the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (J/TIP) at the US Department of State. In this capacity, she oversaw the Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council to End Human Trafficking.
