Sean O’Malley, RLA
Managing Principal, SWA Laguna Beach
The Managing Principal of SWA’s Laguna Beach office, Sean has over 30 years of experience encompassing all aspects of landscape architecture, urban design and planning. His multidisciplinary skill set allows him to develop sophisticated design solutions at a variety of scales across the development transect. Sean utilizes his robust depth of plant knowledge as placemaker to integrate aesthetic and sensory elements as part of an immersive — and sustainable — user experience. His interests are rooted in environmental infrastructure and the integration of a site’s natural elements with its development potential, prioritizing the use of dynamic ecological frameworks for planning and designing our physical environments. Sean received his MLA in Urban Design with distinction from Harvard Univ. Graduate School of Design and his BS in Landscape Architecture, cum laude, from California State Polytechnic Univ., Pomona. He is a member of the ASLA, APA and sits on the ULI Global Exchange Council.
Lovisa Kjerrgren
Associate, SWA Laguna Beach
An Associate in SWA’s Laguna Beach office, Lovisa was drawn to landscape architecture by its integration of natural science, social dynamics, and art. She is interested in ideas and theories about people and place as well as their practical application — the why as much as the how of design. With a sharp eye and analytical mind, she excels at generating design concepts that derive from and expand upon the project’s specific contexts, in addition to communicating ideas with verbal and visual clarity. While being rooted in a Swedish design tradition, she has gained an international outlook on the field through travels, exchange studies, non-profit engagements, and internships, including the SWA Summer Student Program. Lovisa received her MLA and BLA from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. She completed exchange studies in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Melbourne and received a certificate for techniques in fine art from Gotland Art School.
