Victor C. Urrutia (Speaker)
Associate Professor of Neurology @The Johns Hopkins University
Dr. Urrutia is Associate Professor of Neurology, at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and medical director with Johns Hopkins Medicine International. Founder and director of The Global Center for Organized Stroke Care. Chair of the Stroke Quality Improvement Committee of the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and Systems (2013-2018). Developed and implemented the acute stroke emergency medical systems routing for suspected LVO in Maryland. Conducted mock stroke center surveys leading to successful accreditation of Primary and Comprehensive Stroke Centers, in the USA. Led the organization of stroke programs in Colombia and Panama, which achieved Joint Commission International Certifications; also in Bermuda, with a tele stroke program, and in Saudi Arabia.
Brenda Johnson (Speaker)
Assistant Professor of Neurology @Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Dr. Johnson is an acute neurovascular advanced nurse practitioner & is the Assistant Director of the Stroke Center at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She earned her bachelor's degree from Auburn University, Alabama, her master's degree from Mercy College, New York, and her nurse practitioner degree from Pace University, New York and a doctorate degree in nursing practice from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She obtained further specialized training by completing the Advance Practice Neurovascular Fellowship program in stroke at the Arizona State University. Dr. Johnson is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Fellowship Program, Maryland State Quality Improvement Committee and the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. Dr. Johnson has participated in poster presentations and lectures at national & international meetings. Her research interests include stroke prevention & health care disparities.
Hernan Bayona Ortiz (Speaker)
Stroke Center Director @Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá
He obtained his medical degree at Universidad del Rosario (1997), Neurologist (2002) and Epidemiologist (2012) at Universidad El Bosque. Mentored by Bruce Ovbiagele and Wayne Feng in the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in his international stroke fellowship (2015). He was attending neurologist at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá Hospital, where he was also Director of the stroke center until 2021. Recently linked to the Universidad del Valle and Hospital Universitario del Valle as a professor of neurology. He also was involved in several stroke education campaigns. He is co-director of the Research Group of Neurology where he is currently developing different lines of research in clinical neurology and the stroke field involving medical school students, residents, and other interested colleagues in those projects.
Francene Gayle (Moderator)
Medical Stroke Director @Bermuda Hospitals Board
Dr Francene Gayle, MD,FRCP Dr Gayle is a Board Certified Neurologist and Physician Lead of the Johns Hopkins / Bermuda Stroke Alliance. She completed Undergraduate Medical training with Honors and her Doctor of medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. She obtained a Double Fellowship in Adult Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology from the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr Gayle serves on the Global Executive Committee of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology’s MT2020+ Initiative. She is also the Vascular Neurology Co-Chair of their Caribbean Regional Committee. She is a member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, the American Academy of Neurology and the World Stroke Organization.
