Local community-based organizations have been mobilizing to combat racism and violence against Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities as xenophobic attacks have risen in the past weeks and months. Join us for a conversation with WABC-TV New York Reporter CeFaan Kim, Chief of Staff at Chinese-American Planning Council Alice Wong, Executive Director of Asian American Federation Jo-Ann Yoo, and Executive Director of Homecrest Community Services Karen Zhou as they discuss what has been missing from the greater conversation and how communities can unite in solidarity to effectively disrupt and repair the harm caused by anti-AAPI discrimination and racism.

Since then, CeFaan has covered major national breaking news, including the Chelsea terrorist bombing in September of 2016, where he was the first TV reporter on scene. In 2017 he covered the massive spontaneous protest at JFK Airport in response to President Trump's travel ban executive order. CeFaan has also reported extensively on poverty in the Asian-American community in New York. Born and raised in Philadelphia, CeFaan graduated from New York University where he majored in Broadcast Journalism. He is a former sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves; he graduated from Non-Commissioned Officer's Academy on the Commandant's List. In addition, CeFaan is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and serves as co-chair of its Media Watch Committee. Alice Wong (Chief of Staff @Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC)) Alice Wong is the Chief of Staff of CPC and is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of executive affairs, management of all board of directors and governance matters, and oversight of affiliate relations and special projects. Alice has also served as a Deputy Assistant Director for the Mayor’s Office of Appointments. Previously, she has also served as a Senior Manager for the Family and Community Engagement Division at the New York City Department of Education and a Community Affairs Liaison at the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office. Alice is a product of Manhattan’s Chinatown, SUNY-Paltz and NYU Wagner School of Public Service. Karen Zhou (Executive Director @Homecrest Community Services) Karen Zhou is the Executive Director of Homecrest Community Services (HCS), a non-profit multi-social service agency that serving over 4,000 Asian immigrants and seniors in Brooklyn, NY. She oversees operations of two community/senior centers in Sheepshead Bay and Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
