Elaine Maldonado, RHIT, CCS, CDIP, CCDS is a professional in Health Information Management (HIM) with over 35 years of experience, covering a variety of areas, positions and healthcare settings. As an HIM professional, Elaine has extensive experience in Coding and CDI in both application and education. She also has technical experience in design and build for Cerner provider documentation. She has been an active participant in preparing and presenting educational materials for the annual ICD 10 CM Code Update, as well as content reviewer for the AHIMA Clinical Coding Meetings. She is currently the Manager, Coding Compliance at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, a nationally recognized and accredited 412-bed, not-for-profit community medical center, and is proud to be U.S. News & World Report “Best Regional Hospital” 2020-2021, with more than 3,500 professional Associates and 700 active Physicians.
John Zelem, MD FACS

As an accomplished Medical Director and Physician Advisor with over 25 years of General Surgery clinical experience and experience in Compliance and Utilization Review, now moving on to a consulting role. I have successfully analyzed and helped implement best practices for Utilization Review/Management, developed a unique approach to drill down and improve physician documentation for medical necessity with collateral benefit for CDI. I have helped develop and analyze, recruit, and provide training, remotely or onsite, for Physician Advisors in new and existing programs. Using skills learned in motivational speaking and authorship, I have written for and presented to national, local, and specialty organizations engaging executives and physicians. I have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of regulation in the Medicare arena, and experience in dealing with Commercial Health Insurance Providers. I have experience with PEPPER interpretations and quality initiatives.
