In 2014 Shell announced they would be building one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the United States in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. For over a decade residents in Beaver County and allies have been organizing to push back against this proposed petrochemical buildout. Now, the Shell Ethane Cracker Plant is completed and Shell announced it is operational on Nov. 15th 2022.
Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community and allies have developed a to-do list of 6 categories with over 20 community expectations for transparency and accountability. The list was shared with Shell three times and they have yet to provide a satisfactory response to the demands.
Shell is the 16th richest corporation in the world – something made possible by externalizing the health, safety, air and water, quality of life, and plastic pollution costs of their operations onto communities and the climate. If Shell truly plans to attempt to be a “good neighbor” in Beaver County they must go beyond the minimum legal requirements and meet the demands of the community.
Join BCMAC,Eyes On Shell, and allies on Monday, Nov 21st at 7pm ET for an exciting announcement regarding the next step in their work to hold Shell accountable.
Just because the plant is online does not mean the fight is over.
